This Way Out (Black Comedy Thriller)

London, United Kingdom
FUNDED

This Way Out is a pitch-black British comedy about Minnie, a woman obsessed with helping people, and her struggle to run a euthanasia centre from her tiny, top floor flat...

Pre-production on our short film has already begun and we will be shooting in the next six weeks!  It will screen at BAFTA before being sent to Film Festivals worldwide.

----- FUNDING UPDATE----- Hurrah! We have passed our initial funding target! Thank you so much to all our wonderful, amazing Backers. With the time we have left our new target is £2300. This extra £300 will be used towards the post-production of the film, so please show your support by becoming a Backer now. QUICK, TIME IS RUNNING OUT!

What’s the story?

This Way Out follows Minnie and her hapless assistant Maud as they try to run a euthanasia centre – from Minnie’s tiny top floor flat.  Unfortunately business has been deadly slow and the Government has sent an official to issue an ultimatum: Get the death numbers up to target, within ten days, or face closure. How far will Minnie and Maud go to save their jobs and their home?  Deadlines can be murder...

This Way Out is a dark, reckless and fun film exploring the mad world of corporate targets and how chasing them can drive people to extremes.

Who are you?

This Way Out is written and directed by Staten Cousins-Roe. Staten founded the London based production company Forward Motion Pictures.

Our first film Drawn (see a trailer here) was picked as one of the top 10 breakthrough films of the year at the London UK Film Focus screening (alongside Sommers Town by Shane Meadows and Edge Of Love starring Keira Knightly and Sienna Miller).  Drawn was later distributed internationally - a remarkable achievement for such a low budget feature film.

Our second film: short This Love - a beautiful tale of lost love, helmed by director Joseph Warley, has just begun its festival circuit having screened as part of the Short Film Corner at Cannes Film Festival 2012.

This Way Out is especially important – as it will be Staten’s directorial debut. We are so pleased to have a fantastically talented and experienced crew already on board to support him (check out the website for stuff about them).  We are all very excited and ready to start shooting...

How can I help?

We really need YOUR support! Although our wonderful cast and crew have offered their services heavily discounted….well basically for free, we really need to pay other costs, including their expenses.  This means travel, equipment hire and insurance.  Although our budget is actually over £6000 (for editing, grading, sound etc) we need to raise more than £2000 on Sponsume.

What do I do now?

The last four days has been super busy and now I'm very, very happy to announce we have wrapped on the filming of This Way Out! All the footage is in the can and will now be whisked away to our wonderful editor to being the cutting process. To say I'm feeling ecstatic would be an understatement, the footage is looking even better than I could of imagined. Even the weather changed to what we needed, a sunset here, a break in the clouds there. And none of it would have been possible with out you lovely, lovely people backing us and me. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
We'll be uploading photo's over the next week, as we get them, from our brilliant set photographer Lenka Rayn H.  I can't wait to show you all what you helped create!

location scouting
Posted: Monday, 03 September, 2012 - 13:09

The weekend was spent up high on cliffs - Location scouting was never so beautiful.  We found an excellent location on the coast - the stunning wide open spaces, calm vast sea and looming cliffs will provide the perfect setting for some important scenes in This Way Out.

Costume fittings
Posted: Friday, 31 August, 2012 - 12:08

We had a fantastic day of costume fittings on Tuesday. Our two leads, Poppy Roe and Katie Brayben, who play Minnie and Maud, looked fantastic. All lead by our amazing costume designer Mia Gray who has worked on wonderful movies including Guy Richie's Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows  and Brad Pitt's upcoming movie World War Z.
