Mary of the High Seas

Edinburgh, United Kingdom
FUNDED
See video

Our project is a concert performance of Mary of the High Seas, a rip-roaring pirate musical written by Joel Mason and composed by Rosie Bans and Bruce Fraser with additional music by Theo Seller and Greg Fullarton.

Set in the turbulent world of the back streets of London, the battlefields of Flanders and the rolling adventure of the high seas the story takes Mary from a selfish young tomboy with a huge chip on her shoulder, to gregarious war hero, to self-reliant pirate with the heart of a lion… in the body of a woman… disguised as a man.

Your support will pay for rehearsal and performance space, props, costumes, printing, publicity, actors, a musical director and more.  From this concert performance we will be able to get the feedback and exposure necessary to move this play on to the next stage, not to mention being able to pay the artists involved.  Heck... I've still gotta pay my fantastic film crew.

A little further down are links to our sites but please click on one of the ship’s crew positions to the right to become a part of the madness.  Thank you so much for your help.

We have finally settled on a location, the studio space of the Church Hill Theatre, 33A Morningside Road, Edinburgh EH10 4DR with seating for 100. Performances are Friday and Saturday July 22 and 23 at 7:00pm and Sunday July 24 at 1:00pm.

Musical Director
Friday, 20 May, 2011 - 20:18

Cheers everyone, Sponsume has allowed me to extend the dates of the campaign now that we've settled on the 22 of June to open.  A very good thing considering I just got off the phone with the director of Fife Opera who is considering coming on board as Musical Director (he is calling me back Sunday).
So please, if you will, send this link to your family, former teachers, students and others. It works best one personal email at a time.

pianist
Friday, 3 June, 2011 - 06:27

Huray we have our pianist now:

We are happy to announce our pianist and conductor for the concert reading, Andrew Thomson. Andrew, a graduate of RSAMD, is a freelance pianist and singer and has worked as MD, AMD and pianist with companies all across Scotland. Andrew first worked with the Stirling and Bridge of Allan Operatic Society in 1973 (he was very small then). In 1997 he became there accompanist and has been with them ever since. He has sung opera in Tokyo, played jazz piano in Bavaria and performed in a Scottish show in Nuremberg. Andrew has performed in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for over 20 years and regularly brings music to those unable to get to venues through “Music in Hospitals”.
We are very pleased to have him on board.

On the Audition pannel are myself, One of the composers Bruce, actor and associate producers Gilchrist and Nick. Charmain our documentairen, Andy our pianist and of course our SM Carol.

UNDERWAY, SHIFT COLOURS! And it's back into the breach dear friends.

Oh, almost forgot... Bruce says there is a man in Holland who is showing some interest...

Let's get buisy!!!

We have a cast
Sunday, 3 July, 2011 - 22:25

Hi everyone, things are progressing very well for Mary of the High Seas. We now have a cracking cast with actors from Dunblane to London. It also means that we have actors’ salaries to pay. As you can see, we’re still far short of our £3,000 goal. Please take a moment to tell a couple of friends about the project and send us your good thoughts. We look very forward to seeing you later on this month for the world premiere of Mary of the High Seas (those of you that live in the UK). Please visit us on Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/pages/Mary-of-the-High-Seas/181037715251532 to see some video clips as the project progresses.

The box office is now open!!
