Little Boy Blue

London, GB

There is a thin line between madness and normality

Charlie Jr has spent some time in a mental home for adolescents due to anger management issues and various offending behaviours. After extensive treatment, everybody has agreed that he is ready to come home to his family. His home is one of peaceful repression, with a mother who prioritises her beauty over her emotions, a homosexual sister who fearfully refuses to come out of the closet and a detached father with a love of good jazz and a connection to his son that is deeper than what he allows the others to perceive. Everyone is happy to bury their issues and secrets in order to create a calm and simple environment, however, it becomes clear that Charlie Jr is a force of energy that is too difficult to control. The story explores the various levels of repression that are present in our society and how this can be related to madness. Based on the theory of nurture versus nature, the characters surround themselves with normality and act as if they belong in the hope that it will become part of their nature and that they will learn to be satisfied. However, with the return of Charlie Jr, the family will be forced to question their quiet lives of constrained mania.

And now a little bit about our amazingly dedicated and passionate crew!

Producer - Anu Figgis Anderson previously graduated from LCP with a distinction in the Film Foundation course where she produced all of her films including 'Coup de Grace' starring Clive Merrison. Anu has gone on to produce a short film called 'Harriet and the Matches'  starring Helena Barlow, who plays young Estella in Mike Newell's 2012 version of Great Expectations. The talented and generous actor Cillian Murphy, lent his voice for one of the parts.

Writer/Director - Ivana Anastasovska is a Serbian filmmaker based in London. She has a background in editing, writing and directing. Little Boy Blue explores themes she has worked with before such as unbalanced human relationships and the dark roots of a seemingly conventional society. She continues to develop a style based on improvisation and flexibilty in the attempt to create a visceral atmosphere in her work.

Cinematographer - Ally Wingate Saul has worked on short dramas, music videos and commercials, as well as experimental and surreal pieces. Her career in film began with shooting live music gigs, including a feature length documentary of a 3 week UK tour. With a background of painting and stop motion animation, her heart and soul lie in sculpting light with attention to detail in every frame. She has experience shooting on 16mm celluloid as well as high end cameras such as the Alexa.

Editor - Gosia Szczepanska is a practitioner of multi media art and editing. Her work is closely related to her vjing practice. She is interested in feminism and post modern theories of gender, technology and the female body.

Sound Recording/Design - Marcin Szumilas is a freelance sound recordist and sound designer who lives and works in London. He discovered his passion for film sound during a BA (Hons) in Fine Art at the Hereford College of the Arts. Through making his own animated short films he realised that creating the soundtrack was the most exciting process for him. He has a keen interest in all aspects of sound for film, television and radio and hopes to continue his professional development as a sound editor by working on exciting projects and continuing to learn from those around him.
