This is a film about how these people meet and why they will remember it.
Who are we?
We are final year students studying at The Arts University College Bournemouth and Ideas of Tonight is our graduation film. This film will be the culmination of four years of study at AUCB and we hope that the final film will reflect this. Once completed the film will be screened at the British Film Institue as well as the potential to be screened at a variety of festivals worldwide!
Working from an original script by Producer Samuel Osmond and Director James Davies we hope to make a short film that focuses on character and atmosphere, celebrating human relationships and eschewing big sets, big drama and big budgets.
As a crew we have all worked together in some capacity over our time at University. Samuel and James will be joined again on this project by the sensational Director of Audiography John Jefferies, Director of Photographry Thomas Barber, Art Director Elizabeth Vazquez and Editor John Taff. We hope to grow on the success we’ve had on previous AUCB shorts Turtleneck and The Situation Group.
However, the crew aren't the only people we need to make this film. We need YOUR help to make this happen. Be it through funding through this page, spreading the word through social networks or simply staying informed and following the project as it develops!

The Story
On his way home from his nightly swim, Mark, a middle aged hobby swimmer, has a chance run in with Hannah, a student hitchhiking home from university. After agreeing to drive her to the local coach station, they find themselves making a connection beneath the glow of street lamps and passing cars.
Once at the station, in the midst of their reluctant good bye, they are politely interrupted by a sharply dressed Jazz musician who is laden down by the instrument cases of his band mates. After persuading Mark and Hannah to help him carry the pile of instruments to the local Jazz club, the two find themselves able to continue their brief, platonic courtship as they stagger through the cold night.
Arriving at the Jazz club, as a small token of gratitude, the Musician offers them a seat for the bands performance. Unable to refuse the Musician and not quite willing to depart from each other, Mark and Hannah accept the offer. Plunging into the warmth and light of the club, the pair sits in anticipation of the performance. As the performance begins, the two find themselves captivated by the enchanting croon of an elderly singer and the mingle of Jazz instruments. Forcing herself to break away from the spell of the performance, Hannah informs Mark she has to leave. Torn between the music and his new found companion, he follows her.
Finding themselves back at the coach station, they say their goodbyes for the second time in one night. Despite the curious and persistent urge they both have to continue their evening, they must of course both depart. Hannah finds her place amongst the other waiting coach patrons, under the cold, artificial light of the waiting room. Mark climbs into his car, disappearing into the night, with the memories of the girl and the evening resting on his mind.
The Cost
Transport and Catering
Using all of these locations means that we will be having to transport our cast, crew and equipment to every different location on a daily basis throughout our six day shoot. The petrol costs involved will be very high as we will be using a number cars as well as vans to transport our equipment. As a large group of filmmakers working for six straight days around the clock, we will need feeding. So we will need to provide food for cast and crew for the full shoot, meaning the possibility of hiring in outside caterers.
Equipment
In addition to the equipment which will be provided by the University, we also plan to hire in several pieces of additional camera equipment, including a crane and steadicam. We may also need to hire in additional lighting, gripping, sound and design equipment and materials, all of which will incur a high cost.
Cast
In a character based piece such as this, casting is key. As such, we will be holding several casting sessions in London to find our perfect cast. We will need to pay for the casting space as well as possibly transporting actors. Once we have cast the film we need to have the actors on set. This will mean paying for accommodation and transport for the actors once the shoot has begun. We will also need to pay for the make-up and costume of the actors, which includes suiting up a full Jazz band.
Post Production
Once the film has been shot and we think we can take a break, post-production will begin. The costs involved with this may include grading of the film, any special effects we may need and getting the cast back in for additional voice overs.
The Music
One of the key themes of our film is music and how music effects and changes peoples lives. We will have our band singing and performing previously recorded Swing Jazz hits and so we will of course need to pay for copyright to include the music in the film and subsequently have the film screened at various festivals.
