The Story
Home Guard is a short WWII drama, following the character of Tom, a young enthusiastic lighthouse operator who is eager to break free from his mundane life on the British coast and do his part for his country. One night he finds an unconscious body washed ashore, news of a prison break out arises suspicion that the unconscious body is a German POW. The events following this take Tom on a journey, leading to the realisation of the bitterness of war.
The History
On March 11th 1945 70 Prisoners of War escaped from Island Farm camp in Bridgend, this was the largest POW escape in Great Britain during the war. Members of the Home Guard helped search for the escapees, our story follows a young member of the Home Guard who finds a German POW. It is through their time spent together that Tom realizes that War is not as black and white as he his dreams led him to believe.
Total Breakdown
The team at SkyReach Productions have already risen as much as they can and every member of the crew is working for free in order to tell this story. We have already confirmed two of the three locations of this project. Nash Point lighthouse and coastline will be used for the stunning exteriors and beautiful lamp room. However period pieces are expensive, and in order to give this film the costumes, props and locations that will make it authentic we are asking you to join us in this project.
The total that we are asking for is £2000, this total will cover the cost of our interior location and set dressing (£950), props (£300) and extra equipment needed for the production (£750). All these things are absolutely essential for the progress of Home Guard and that’s why we have thought long and hard about what we can offer you in exchange for your kindness.
Rewards
Some of the rewards will be available straight away, others can only be issued when the film is complete. This film will be distributed in July 2014, one year after completion due to a festival tour.
