I am aiming to set up some experimental contemporary art workshops with local artists in Maidstone, Kent; with a group of adults with learning disabilities or visual impairment. Your contribution will pay for us to make art in a pop-up studio and gallery environment later this year, with other professional and new artists. The work made, will be curated and exhibited amongst other experimental art projects and in a professional contemporary art environment.
This is a ground breaking collaborative project focusing on people's abilities not their disabilities, and if successful it will help build our case for future investment from the Arts Council - we hope one day to have a more stable environment to develop our own art practices, exhibitions, residencies, commissions and expressive languages, such as our own studio spaces. It also builds the competence of the lead artist and mentor (Helen Morley), the experience of volunteers and the support workers who facilitate the artists professional development, and will test relationships with the newly emerging artist co-operative who will be hosting, called Making art Work.
We have been offered free working space, but need cash for materials, tools, training and support. We have planned that £2000 will deliver eight full days of workshops for six people, including insurance, risk assessments, and the curation and exhibition. We hope you can support us (because we plan to change the world) and then join us in celebrating our new creative voice.
