The Bamburgh Research Project is a non-profit independent archaeological research project investigating the area around Bamburgh Castle in Northumberland, which is one of the most important archaeological sites currently under excavation in northern England.
The Bamburgh Research Project was set up in 1996 to investigate the history of Bamburgh Castle and its environs from prehistory to the present day, and we aim, through our work, to bring that past to life for everyone. The Castle contains within its bounds layers representing more than 2,000 years of continuous occupation, while the landscape around the castle rock is textured by over 6,000 years of human history.
This project is only possible because of the students and volunteers willing to help maintain and further excavate this site. Yearly, BRP provides young archaeologist with their first hands-on experience in this unbelievably rewarding field.
