Artburst is an award-winning arts organisation based in East London, providing creative educational workshops that improve the lives of young people and families.
Our workshops integrate drama, art, music and movement and are led by an experienced team of Arts and Drama Facilitators, often with Speech Therapists and other specialised support staff. Our programmes are aimed at improving oracy and literacy skills, developing confidence and encouraging a passion for children's literature.
Since we were founded in 2006, Artburst has worked with over 15,000 children in schools, children’s centres, nurseries, museums and galleries. We work with children from 0 - 19 years, and our projects are often tailored for children from disadvantaged backgrounds of with specific needs such as Autism, Speech Language and Communication Needs, or English as an Additional Language.
Artburst currently run the 3 year Speak Out project for Under 5s and Year 6 children with Speech Language and Communication Needs in Hackney, funded by the Big Lottery Fund’s Reaching Communities programme; a 3 year holiday school project, working with disadvantaged children in Bow, funded by a grant from BBC Children in Need; the regular Wondertots and Wordburst Family Explorers programme at the V&A Museum of Childhood; and a range of other workshops and events across London.
Artburst is run by co-founders and Directors Penny Embden and Amy Bicat, with the support of a small team of administrators and interns. We have recently relocated from London Fields to Hoxton, East London.
