What It Feels Like

London, United Kingdom
FUNDED

A devastating accident rips through Nick’s world, dragging him into a coma and presenting the ultimate question: what happens to the mind and consciousness at the point of death?

The Show

Previewing at the New Wimbledon Theatre Studio in London and premiering at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2011, Encompass Productions presents 'What It Feels Like' - an experimental drama taking place within the world of a coma.

A bittersweet story hurled through extraordinary circumstances, this new play is inspired by the study of comas, dreams and biomedical debate. Featuring an original score and told through several performance disciplines, this is a production that demands to be seen.

The Story

Nick and Sarah are married, but not happily. The story of their relationship is ending. This is their final chapter. The world of the coma has only two ways out - Nick must confront his memories and mistakes before his decision. But with the guidance of the two mismatched agents Lester and Simpson, this journey will be anything but smooth sailing. Combining the world of comas and dreams with multimedia, physical theatre and black comedy, this exciting multidisciplinary drama takes audiences into the surreal and unfamiliar, becoming a frank and brutal tour of human nature at its best and worst. Dare you see what it feels like?

The Company

Encompass Productions are an innovative, new production company that create bold, experimental artistic projects. We organise monthly Residency events to showcase local music and comedy talent, as well as hold improvised comedy shows with their own sharp-witted performers Shoot From The Hip. The company also hosted a public Q&A session with renowned actor David Thewlis (Harry Potter/The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas) earlier this year. As part of our outreach work Encompass have developed and taught an entire theatre curriculum as part of a scheme with organisation Clever Endeavours. We have also run improvisation workshops for children and teenagers in the Richmond Shakespeare Society, at the Mary Wallace Theatre.

We believe that to be an artist is to undertake a duty, that to create great art that reaches its fullest potential is to have compassion not only for the art itself, but for the people we create it with and for. From this ENCOMPASS has one simple goal: to entertain, educate and enrich people’s lives through our work.

Your Funding

To have great results you have to think big. Unfortunately thinking big can also cost big. As a young production company we can only fund so much ourselves, and we’ve had no luck with funding resources so far.

Your contribution will allow us to get this production off the ground and help to guarantee more interesting projects from the company in the future. We want to bring our work to a wider audience and have worked very hard over the past year to be proactive not only in the development of ‘What It Feels Like’, but in our outreach and events too. Encompass is a long term endeavour and to do this we need your help!

All financial help will cover: Publicity (Posters, Flyers, Programmes, etc.), Set, Props, Costumes, Transport hire (to take the set to London and Edinburgh) and London and Edinburgh venue hire (this is our highest cost).

To show our endless gratitude we have some fantastic goodies to give you - all described in the information bar to the right! To claim your Show Tickets and/or Workshops please contact:

Thank you so much for your kind contribution, we wouldn’t be able to do this without you!
