The previously nomadic Santhal tribe of Bolpur, Bengal now live in a village. The children have access to basic education, but are relectant to attend school.
One of Kolkata’s most famous rock stars is bringing his talent out of the city and into the forest to give guitar lessons to Santhal children in hopes of raising them out of poverty and encouraging them back into the classroom through musical education.
Sanjay Bhattacherjee is a celebrated guitarist and pioneer of Baul fusion music in India. He has retired from a rock and roll lifestyle to dedicate his time to educating some of West Bengals most marginalised and disadvantaged children in the unique setting of their forest home.
Currently Sanjay's Jungle music school has around 35 students but only two guitars. This project has been set up with the aim of raising funds to buy at least 20 more guitars so every child has a a chance to learn and play.
The owner of this project has not made any updates yet.
