We've done it!
With your help we have reached our goal of £3,000. A tremendous thank you to everyone who has helped make new music happen.
However, this is the last day of our campaign and your help is more important than ever. Any extra funds that we raise would help support the running costs of the concert itself as well as the commission as a whole.
This is your chance to put your name to a piece of music history.
In return for your gift, we’d love to say thank you with a selection of exclusive Radio Rewrite rewards, including the opportunity to purchase a ticket to the sold-out world première performance at London Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall on Tuesday 5 March 2013 and meet the composer himself.
In September 2011, Steve Reich watched Jonny Greenwood perform Electric Counterpoint in Poland. Keen to learn more about Greenwood’s own music, he investigated the music of Radiohead, and with it has discovered a compositional stimulus which is ‘something different, something new’.
True to form, at the age of 76, Steve Reich continues to write music which is youthful, inventive and still as relevant today as his first works from the 60s. Radio Rewrite, inspired by the music of Radiohead, is the latest work from Steve Reich, and his first composition for larger ensemble in some years. It will receive its world première performance on Tuesday 5 March at London’s Southbank Centre, followed by a series of performances across the UK and Europe.
Hailed as ‘our greatest living composer’ by the New York Times, Steve Reich is a musician whose influence stretches far and wide.
Taking inspiration from a wide range of cultural and musical influences including jazz, music from Bali and India, experimentalism, politics, cultural affairs and contemporary art, Steve Reich developed a musical voice which has had unprecedented musical effect. Groups and artists including The Velvet Underground, The Orb, Brian Eno, and Aphex Twin have all been influenced by Reich, and in turn Radiohead guitarist and composer Jonny Greenwood cites Aphex Twin as an influence. It seems fitting then, that Steve has now turned to the music of Radiohead to inspire his latest work, Radio Rewrite.
