In June 2011, James Urquhart, a science journalist and independent filmmaker from the east coast of Scotland, begins a 5 month journey travelling on foot to climb the Munros, the 283 mountains in Scotland that rise above 3000ft. www.munrofilm.com
Carrying a tent and an HD camera, Urquhart will document the journey as he becomes immersed within Scotland's dramatic landscapes.
The footage that Urquhart captures will form the basis of his first feature documentary film. The story is yet to unfold, but do not expect a banal account of calories consumed and self-styled adventurism to reach the extremes of human endurance.
Intertwined with the story of the journey, Urquhart's film will explore various ideas and themes including why it is that some people seek experiences in wild places. Perhaps it is to prevent the distractions of modern life disconnecting us from nature? Or perhaps it is simply to feel alive?
In search of landscapes, people, and elemental experiences Urquhart aims to discover and document a primordial human connection with nature through our hopes, fears and dreams.
In order to help make this project happen James is asking people to back the project by choosing one or more of the 283 peaks for £20 each in return for a film credit and an A4 size photo of their chosen peak. Money will be put towards essential things required for the journey and film to happen which include a whole range of things such as food provisions, camping equipment, postproduction costs, distribution and marketing costs, and festival fees.
