MONO_POP was created by Sara Hirsch and Peter Hobday who together make up the creative partnership Use A Coaster.
We both trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama in Acting for collaborative and devised theatre. It was during our training that we created Use A Coaster and since then we have worked together on shows, radio plays, short films and devised pieces. We are both young actors with a passion for creating our own work. We also bring other skills to the company, Peter being a skilled editor and Sara having a natural talent for producing. We wanted to bring these skills together and this is when the idea for MONO_POP was conceived.
Since the idea was formed about six months ago we have been developing the project with Jet Set Films and have been given a Go Pro Camera to film the episodes. The camera is tiny, waterproof and films with a fish eye lens and we are thrilled to be using a camera that is normally used for action videos in a way it has never been used before. (We can't wait to film in a swimming pool!)
MONO_POP will be a series of episodes each being about two minutes long that will be uploaded onto youtube and vimeo. We hope to release one a month gradually making more and more until we are launching one every week. We want people to call us, email us, stop us on the street with something interesting they want to share with the world.
Each episode will tell a story, be it sad, funny, embarassing, entertaining, crazy or mundane. We will be using the voices of real people but you will be seeing our faces, giving every story a new identity.
In order to get the project off the ground we need to do many things such as maintaining the website costs, setting up as a limited company, obtaining new equipment and software, and designing and shooting the episodes. We need the money to allow the project to grow and to improve the quality of the viedoes we will be creating. A large proportion of the money will go towards start up costs to allow us to maintain the production of the episodes as well as our brand.
We would like to update our equipment and software by getting our own professional recording device, editting software and lighting equipment which will cost us in the region of £300 to £500. This equipment is crucial to the development of the project and the quality of the videos that we produce.
We would like to be able to maintain our website costs and increase our online presence which at the moment is £100 per year.
We would like to start up as a company and register as a business as well as setting up an office at our home address. This is a huge expense which we have already started saving up for ourselves but a little help in this area would go a long way.
Finally, the rest of the money we are asking for would go towards the expenses of filming. Each episode requires a different costume, location and design. We have been working on a strict budget and have spent as little as possible but to acheive the quality we want we still have costs to cover including travel, costume etc.
This is an outline as to where the money would go. We are both putting our own money into the project as well but any help would be a huge advantage and we would be very grateful.
If you have any further questions as to where your donation would go please do not hesitate to contact us on .
Verbatim is a medium that we have been interested in since Use A Coaster was created four years ago. We have always thought that however hard you try you can never recreate the way that someone tells a story and as a medium verbatim is interesting, funny and honest. We can't wait to explore verbatim in a completely new way and we coulnd't be more excited about this project.
