Hands in the Air Productions, in association with the Mermaids Theatre Fund, and the Demarco European Arts Foundation present: Macbeth on Inchcolm Island, 10th, 11th, 16th, 17th, 19th August 2012.
Working alongside Richard Demarco, CBE, who has been at the forefront of Scottish arts and both the Fringe and International Festival since their conception, we are expanding on his hugely successful previous productions of Macbeth on the island in 1988 and 1989. It is an exciting project aiming to bring the tale of Macbeth to life in its perfect setting; the island is actually referenced in the text. The dramatic backdrop will enhance the performance - which previously took place in St Andrews Castle in April. We are also part of the culmination of the 600th anniversary celebrations of the University.
The audience will be taken on a journey from the centre of Edinburgh and transported by bus and boat to the island nestled in the Firth of Forth. The performance itself will allow the audience to cross the island and go from room to room in the twelfth century abbey as the tale of Macbeth's thirst for power unfolds.
We're also working with Richard Demarco's venue Summerhall, which is set to be one of the most exciting venues this Fringe. (Check us out on the Summerhall website here: http://www.summerhall.co.uk/2012/macbeth-on-inchcolm-island/).
But we need your help....
In order to bring this production to Inchcolm Island, the main costs are for transport - including chartering a boat and a bus - and the costs of using the island. We have already filled in comprehensive sponsorship forms and have raised nearly £5000 for the project. We received the bulk of the funding from Mermaids Theatre Fund, on the proviso that we raise money for technical costs of lighting and sound, costumes, publicity and programmes. We are currently looking to raise £2000 before our intensive rehearsal period begins on the 19th July and, specifically, £1000 through Sponsume.
Further funds will be raised through corporate sponsorship and individual sponsorship using Richard Demarco's network. If we do surpass our fundraising goal, any excess money that we do receive will be put towards the cast's travel expenses, as currently the cast will have to pay for their own transport to and from the island (estimated at £5 for each day we perform).
Any amount you could donate towards our fundraising goal would be greatly appreciated. (Please note that you do not have to give the specific donations listed to the right, any amount is welcome!)
We now have a page on the Summerhall website.... http://www.summerhall.co.uk/2012/macbeth-on-inchcolm-island/. And tickets will be going live sometime next week!
