LOVE / BLIND - LOGLINE
Joe is about to go on an exciting date, one he's been looking forward to for a long time. What could possibly go wrong? Well maybe his glasses breaking, and that's just the start of it....
LOVE / BLIND - SYNOPSIS
Another day and another date for lonely hearts Joe and Cybil. They’re both avid users of dating websites but neither of them has had much luck!
It’s always an anxious wait to see who they’re going to be meeting and what they’re really like: Joe hopes that he hasn’t booked another night with a “crazy cat lady”, while Cybil (who kisses her cats goodbye on her way to the date…) hopes that she may finally meet someone to settle down with.
Unfortunately for Joe he breaks his glasses whilst getting ready – and that’s just the start of a series of mishaps for our star-crossed lovers, setting in motion a hilarious chain of events taking in several accidents, a fair amount of farce and lot of faux pas! All of which leads to a hilarious and surprising denouement…

LEE HUTCHINGS / DIRECTOR’S VISION
As a Director I look for stories and characters that move and interest me, and on first reading Love/Blind I immediately knew I had to direct this script.
What grabbed me about Love/Blind is its story and unique, quirky humour. The central characters in Love/Blind are also unique because they are essentially ‘losers’, but loveable losers. They're the sort of people who strive and persist for the things in life that society normally takes for granted. In this instance, love. Furthermore Love/Blind stood out for me because of its off-beat humour which isn't crude or low brow, there is certainly no gratuitous humour used here, but instead the humour employed is well thought out, edgy, intelligent and undeniably British.
The spoken and visual elements of Love/Blind have been wonderfully blended together by the script's writer, JD Douglas-Walton, to a very high standard. And, as with all good scripts, I was able to easily visualise the story and grasp its humour without feeling belittled or unsatisfied, which is how I intend the audience to feel after watching the completed film.
In regards to influences I associate with Love/Blind, when thinking of how I am going to approach the filming of the script, I immediately think of films such as Peter Bogdanovich's They All Laughed and Marc Webb's 500 Days of Summer as well as the Channel 4 Television programme Peep Show. These examples all have similar styles and humour to that in Love/Blind and I intend to use these influences to help me craft a character driven short film that is refreshing, heart-warming, funny and engaging for its audience.
