The lost art of keeping a secret - so tell everyone!

Our project:

Life is like a coin. You can spend it any way you wish, but you only spend it once.
Lillian Dickson (a missionary to the mountain people of Formosa (modern Taiwan))

Suicide can happen to anyone.
Did you know that more people died by suicide last year, than people who died in road traffic accidents? That means, in any one week, more than 10 people will kill themselves in Ireland. This has to stop – simple. So what we here in Pieta House propose to do, is create an amazing awareness campaign that will highlight - for all those lucky to not be affected by suicide – how prevalent suicide is, how it can turn up on your doorstep overnight, how someone you know could be contemplating it, and you wouldn’t even know, how suicide can happen to anyone.

We want a large gang of us to march through the city centre of Dublin and Limerick on World Suicide Awareness Day. We’re hoping more than 350 people will turn up, and we want all of us to wear a t-shirt with the simple but powerful message that suicide can happen to anyone.
Can you help us? Can you fund this project? We need funding to buy the t-shirts – the more money we receive, the more of an impact we can have on the day.

About Pieta House

Pieta House was established almost 6 years ago. The task was simple – to stop suicide and to stop self-harm. The work isn’t easy, but it is rewarding. We have seen over 4000 troubled men, women and children walk through our doors, do we must be doing something right! We also believe that everyone should be able to receive the help they desperately need, regardless of their financial situation, so our service is completely free of charge. With regards to funding, 90% of our income is self-generated, donated, and fundraised, so this is why we need your help with this Awareness Campaign.

What can you do to help?

What is the meaning of life? To be happy and useful.
- Tenzin Gyatso, 14th Dalai Lama

You could help fund this campaign by buying a t-shirt.
You could help fund this campaign by buying more than just a t-shirt!
You could help by turning up in Dublin or Limerick on Saturday 10th September (venue tba) and wearing one of our specially designed t-shirts, walking through the city centre, and being proud to make the statement: Suicide Can Happen To Anyone.
