K2TOG - Knit 2 Together

Birmingham, United Kingdom

Sara Fowles and Stitches and Hos are very excited to launch their next knit graffiti project K2TOG – Knit 2 Together

This summer I aim to cover with knitting the columns on the outside of Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery to commemorate the visit and stay in Birmingham of the Jamaican and American Olympic teams. A palette of six colours (red, white, blue, green yellow and black) will be used to create the installation.  The colours are taken from both team’s national flags and are the same colours used in the Olympic rings logo.

We need your help to bring the project to life!

We need to raise £2500 in order to realise the project.

We want to engage people from across the region to contribute to a visually spectacular artwork welcoming the American and Jamaican teams to Birmingham. We want to engage those who already knit, but also pass on traditional hand knitting skills to new people. The piece will be made by the people for the people.

The money raised will help fund workshops in order for the piece to be made. We will be going out into the local community in order to pass on the skill of hand knitting to those who have little experience of traditional crafts.

The money raised will also help to fund a pop-up shop in the Mailbox, Birmingham, a relaxing drop-in space where anyone can come to contribute to the piece and find out about the project. Staff will be on hand to teach basic knitting skills and local workers can pop-in over their lunch hour or after work to knit a square or just a few rows.

About us

K2Tog is a project by Sara Fowles, founder member of Stitches and Hos. A motley crew of all things knitted, crocheted and stitched, Stitches and Hos has been running a monthly knitting hootenanny since 2006. Every last Tuesday of the month they currently meet at the Hare and Hounds pub in Kings Heath, Birmingham with knitting needles, a ball of wool and a pint to plan their soft revolution. www.stitchesandhos.co.uk

Previous knit graffiti exploits include Wooly Bully, giving the iconic bronze bull outside Birmingham’s Bullring shopping centre a sparkly festive Christmas jumper (2011), beautifying bollards around a circular intersection in Rainbow Roundabout (2011) and Candy Cane Pier, crochet coverings for the lampposts along the pier for Skegness Open Festival (2011).

The owner of this project has not made any updates yet.
