Independent-release: helping emerging artists

Enniscorthy, Ireland

What is this about?

After years helping artists to present their art and doing my best to spread the word, mainly on www.limited-release.com and www.limited-scream.com it was time to see bigger.
This is why limited-release is becoming a limited company with one goal: helping the indie community and talented artists to get exposure. Basically an online shop will be added to the site, offering DVDs, CDs, Photography and Illustrations, but as some of you know, it has to be different:

We will be selling limited edition and signed copy of indie artists' works... why?

Well simply because we believe in the exclusivity of a product and the excitement for the fan of being the owner of a hard copy that represent something special. Call us old school but this is something that cannot be achieved through download.

We can offer to do this in 3 different ways:

  1. the artist gives 1 copy of the DVD/CD etc... We duplicate/print it to for example 100 copies. They keep half of them to sell or promote their art and we sell the other half on limited-release, signed and numbered with a certificate. It cost them nothing and they get copies for free.

  2. We buy the stock from the artist upfront and sell it on the site, still signed and numbered of course.

  3. The artist gets paid as it sells, every 10 copies or so.

Of course, not all material presented will make it, quality, talent and originality will prevail.
All items will be featured on www.limited-release.com while the blog will keep on searching for the next big thing.

This way the independent art can find a place to be sold; a second life as a limited edition and a way to please the hardcore fans...

But why do you need to crowdfund?

We decided to crowdfund for several reasons:

  1.  This is not about the money, even if we would love to we know that it will take years before a profit can be made. We will not take a cent out of the company for the first year, everything will go back in the till to help more artists and grow in popularity...

  2.  We want to start small the indie way, and grow eventually but it means that no bank would help if it is not with some insurance that they will be able to get their money back. This leads us to point number 3:

  3. What better way for a company that lives for the indie community than start with the help of the same community?

We feed on dreams, but the sky is the limit. There are unknown gems out there and we will find them and expose them, this is a promise.

What stage is this project at?

The papers are sent and we are waiting on the papers to come back to open a bank account under the company name.

The domain name is ours: http://independent-release.com

The site is starting to take shape

Twitter, Facebook page... are up and running. (We received a tremendous response to the project on twitter, Facebook, and by email by the way).

We have secured, among others, 25 signed copies of the award winning Irish documentary “The Pipe” and limited prints of illustrations from the UK based artist Jason James and a dozen of other films/shorts/albums/photographies are on the way. Please note: We have the funds for those few.

We planned to advertise when young artists premieres, concerts, or signings. Talks already took place.
