The Film

This ten minute short film gives us a darkly humorous glimpse into the competitiveness of classical musicians. We find it is the classical talents that have just the same secrets and ambitions as their more publicised Rock ‘n Roll contemporaries.

No one is innocent and it is a rough game of talent and subterfuge.

Whilst there are moments of classical beauty during the performance, backstage reveals a web of deceit, intimacies and secrets.

We start with the more common world presented to us on our televisions. Celebrity culture, the red carpet and the interviewing of the person in the spotlight for their five minutes of fame. An almost everyday display we can find within all of our media.

Before long we dip briefly into a world of distorted vision and sound seen through the drug induced haze of the Clarinetist.

The dénouement descends further into a distinct note of the “noir”. Will something come from the shadows to seek revenge?

As these different beats weave through the script they will be carefully reflected in the direction, performance and cinematography of the piece. The flow and pace of this microcosm of talent and deceit will be richly layered where each individual and their motives will be highlighted against a dark background.

The Team

Jennie Paddon is taking this script as her second step into film directing. She is currently in post-production on her five-minute non-dialogue piece, “Die”.
She studied Drama at Goldsmiths College where she both acted and directed. Jennie was also involved in setting up a new Theatre Company for which she acted and directed, staging productions on the London fringe.
For the last twelve years she has been observing and learning from some of the leading directors in the film industry whilst working in the camera department on productions both large and small.

The Money

All money being raised will be going directly into the production value elements of the film.  Whatever money is contributed will effectively be seen on screen.  The Director is already funding £4000 of her own money which will cover the more boring aspects like insurance, transport and feeding the fabulous crew that is being put together.

The Shoot

The filming will take place in South East London during March over two and a half days
