'Gym Party' at Edinburgh Fringe 2013

What is Gym Party?

Gym Party is  a razor sharp, slightly dark three way battle-to-the-death and hilariously confused call-to-arms. It's a theatre show that explores the brilliant, terrible, universal human desire to win - and what it means to build a society on this. Anarchic, comic and thoughtful, it speaks to anyone who frets about the state of the world, then gets distracted by a dumb celebrity tweet.

Gym Party is premiering at Summerhall, Edinburgh, August 12-25. We've been working hard making the show over the past few months, and now we need your help to unleash it into the world.

Why does Gym Party need you?

A successful run in Edinburgh this year will enable Made In China to  grow and become more self-sustaining. We're seeking to reach more people with a bigger, bolder show than ever before. This means selling tickets in Edinburgh, but also using the unique exposure we can get at the Fringe to secure tour dates across the UK and - for the first real time -  international touring. The latter has the potential to significantly increase our future revenue, meaning we have to do less of these appeals and can instead focus on creating the  shows that have made our name!

Made In China has never made profit. Income from ticket sales does not cover costs - especially at the Edinburgh Fringe. And there is no public funding available to us for taking Gym Party to Edinburgh. We need to pay for everything - for example: getting our team there and back, accomodation, hiring our performance space, promoting the show, paying professionals working on it who aren't part of Made In China, props and costume upkeep, a licence to play recorded music in the show.

Who are these Made In China guys?

Made In China is Tim Cowbury and Jessica Latowicki. We make shows at the juncture of playwriting and live art for audiences who are fans of neither and both.

Our work reaches a lot of people considering the niche appeal experimental theatre tends to have. And we want to reach more and more whilst upholding the artistic value of what we do: pushing at the boundaries of what theatre is and can be, and helping UK theatre to evolve into something more relevant and more exciting.

"Not since Forced Entertainment burst on to the scene almost 30 years ago has a company arrived with such a fully formed and distinctive voice." (The Guardian, on Made In China, 2012)
