When I started photographing nature I soon got a major problem: how to identify what I was getting in the pictures. I searched in the public libraries, in book stores and on the web, but couldn’t find what I was looking for.
So I decided to do something about it...
The project is to photograph, during about six months, as much as possible of the wild life in this area (Algarve in Portugal) to build a database about the nature and biodiversity in the area. The data will be used to publish at least one book that, I am sure, will be useful in the local schools to show the children how important nature is and to help them to put names on the different plants and animals.
This book will also be important for all the visitors interested in discover a bit more about the natural beauty of the Algarve - and I know they are many! Even local people will receive this book with interest because most of them have a very basic knowledge about the amazing species living at their doorstep.
It will be a basic book with many images and some text about the species and also a lot of information about how and where it is possible to learn more. The database will be used to eventually publish some thematic books and will also be published on the web.
Shooting about 100 000 pictures, choosing the very best of them, and putting them together on a book will be a great challenge for me. I look forward to sharing the results of my work with you!
