'Fatima' will be a short film about unsung heroism, taken from a series i have been writing called 'The Secret Lives of Strong Women'.
The video link that i have posted here is for 'The Rat', which was a short film i made last year from the same series of stories. This was made for a budget of £800, which was basically hire of sound equipment and a camera. This time for 'Fatima' it feels important to raise the production value sufficiently to honour the story and reach a larger audience.
The story:
Fatima makes her way over from her crowded apartment in the moroccan quarter of Barcelona to a penthouse apartment on a spacious leafy hillside overlooking a swimming pool, the city and the sea. Jake and Maria, young, expensive and newly married are leaving for dinner. They are coming out of the lift on the ground floor as Fatima arrives and, after greeting them, insists on walking up the stairs.
Outside in the late summer evening Maria realises she has forgotten to tell Fatima that the water will be switched off in the building tonight, but they are late and Jake insists that Fatima will work it out. Which she does. Fatima goes out onto the balcony to consider what to do next, she looks down at the swimming pool.
Soon Fatima is carrying bucket loads of water from the swimming pool up the stairs to the apartment, to the bemusement of an elderly neighbour on the stairs and a young couple in the garden, and cleaning everything from the dishes in the sink to the bathroom floor. She even leaves a full bucket of water by the toilet for her employers. The apartment is spotless and Fatima leaves.
When Jake and Maria stumble in later Maria is baffled by the clean apartment, and the full bucket, but is soon distracted by Jake who is more interested in what she's wearing under her dress. The film fades out into darkness and laughter.
Production:
I'm hoping to raise £3000 to cover production costs of making this film as simply as possible in Barcelona at the end of the summer.
The owner of this project has not made any updates yet.
