Donald Newman - Underachiever (also saviour of the universe)

 

We are currently looking for local, Bedfordshire based, extras for the medieval battle scene at the beginning of the series. We need both men and women, if you are a LARPER or re-enactor with your own costume then that's brilliant but we do have a costume designer and costume maker making the tunics and chainmail.  Please email if you're interested.

 

DONALD NEWMAN: UNDERACHIEVER (ALSO SAVIOUR OF THE UNIVERSE) 

"I'm Donald Newman, I suppose most would call my life boring but I prefer to think of it as dependable. I made the mistake of trying to shake things up by meeting a nice girl and going for a job interview. Unfortunately I never got there as I was hit by a car ... driven by myself. Next thing I know I'm being chased by hitmen who think I'm some sort of master wizard. Things just got weirder from then on."

The Project

Flitter Films is embarking on it's most ambitious project yet, a webseries!

The project is a sci-fi / fantasy / comedy about an average guy with a below average life. Donald Newman is still working at the bottom of the food chain and living with his brother after a particularly brutal break up. One day he just snaps and decides to try and turn things around but a chain of events beyond his control are already in motion and his life soon has a little more excitment in it than he was looking for. Donald might be an underachiever but he also just might be the last hope for humanity.

We are shooting the four part pilot at the end of August with hopes to be online by Mid-October, and we just need a little help to cover additional costs and help move comfortably into post production, without it the project could get stalled indefinitely. The project is a labour of love for all involved, each of us motivated on by the desire to bring this brilliantly quirky idea to life.

If you can spare a pound or two then please do and we will love you forever. Also spread the word as much as you can, this extra bit of cash is vital to the smooth running of the shoot.

After the pilot we are hoping to continue the series (12 episode planned at least) into the new year and working to turn this into the newest phenomenon that could stretch well beyond the current plan.

Series Summary

Donald Newman has worked at the same bottom rung job for over ten years. He has a string of failed relationships the last of which kicked him out of his house forcing him to move in with his much more successful younger brother. Life doesn't seem like it could get much lower but things start to look up when he meets a nice girl at a singles evening and get invited to a job interview the following morning.

However, his good mood is cut short when he is hit by a car, a car which he is convinced he saw himself driving. After this he finds himself the target of two time travelling hitmen whilst under the protection of a mysterious woman who doesn't seem all that used to being human. All this is being watched over by a descendent of the last true wizard, who is rapidly catching up his ancestor in eccentricity, but just because the last true wizard died over a thousand years ago whilst serving as part of a ludicrously disfunctional elite unit of the kings knights doesn't mean that he and this socially inept unit has finished causing trouble.

The company is run by writer/director Kristian Mitchell-Dolby and casting director and producer Caley Powell. After finishing university we worked on a variety of independent projects as well as working freelance in our own fields of expertise but now we are looking to take on something more ambitious.
