‘Defunct Pig‘ is a play written, directed and produced by Justyna Mytnik, an upcoming Polish artist living and creating in Scotland. Please consider supporting the new production of 'Defunct Pig' which is going to premiere at the Fringe 2012. We’ll be showcasing fresh and original writing that explores the limits of theatre. Your support will allow us to cover the expenses of the Fringe Festival registration fee, which makes the play elegible for awards. We will be very grateful if you watched our video and backed our project by choosing one of the offered packages. And most importantly: come and enjoy our great show in August!
‘Defunct Pig‘ is already a success story. It sold out every night at the Summerhall (21-24th March 2012), was loved by the audiences and praised for its high quality by theatre professionals including Nicola McCartney, and Peter Arnott. David Greig hailed it: ‘Quite the oddest, boldest play by youth I've seen for years‘.
'Defunct Pig' was first performed as part of 'Short Sweet Shock', night of new writing, funded with support of the English Literature Department of Edinburgh Uni. This summer 'Defunct Pig' is going to officially premiere at the Fringe. We can't wait to surprise the critics with the high standard of our new production which we’re going to make better and wackier than ever...
‘Defunct Pig‘ is part of the PBH’s Free Fringe and is going to be performed at the Princess Mall L4, between 12-25th of August, at 14:15-15:15. Being part of the Free Fringe means that we didn’t have to pay any venue fees, but the Fringe registration fee cost us a fortune (£394!) and your support will allow us cover those costs. We are not selling tickets, because entry to all PBH’s Free Fringe shows is free.
Total Fringe Expenditure:
Fringe Society Registration - £394
Marketing and printing costs - £ 144
Notes: Justyna Mytnik is covering all the expenses to date, which she aims to earn back from donations and support of sponsors.
About the ‘Defunct Pig‘: A mother awakes at the Zoo to find a suspicious puppeteer playing with her baby. The frightened mum pulls a knife on the stranger. Suddenly, an SAS team crash into the theatre and disrupt the performance. They will save your life. They search for a terrorist. But who is the real terrorist? Who killed the little piggy? Are you more scared of a brownie or the pig? Warning: strangers may cause paranoia. Oink oink. Defunct Pig is an absurd political comedy examining the short stretch from fear to paranoia.
Justyna Mytnik: has graduated this year from University of Edinburgh with MA in History of Art and English Literature and is starting out her career in theatre and film. She wrote, directed and produced ‘Defunct Pig‘(Summerhall Theatre, 2012), ‘Butterflies Scream‘ (Bedlam Theatre, 2009), ‘Kaleidoscope‘ (15min film, 2008). She was the founder and the Artisitc Director of ‘Short Sweet Shock‘ which produced three original works by student playwrights.
