Piecing together jerky, discordant, misbehaving pop compositions amongst a swirling, uneasy sense of impending collapse in epic noise climaxes, GIN PANIC have been evolving since their conception in the year 2000. 11 years on and they're going from strength to strength, with a new album underway and a European tour lined up for the summer, GIN PANIC have now decided it's time to put their music to film and engaged me to envision their upcoming single, CITIES.
Inspired by the track, Alex Robertson and I (lead vocals, guitar) wove a visual narrative story about 5 seemingly ordinary people's lives, the lengths they will go to to make a living and how their fates collide one night in the city. The script became "CITIzEnS" and with the characters cast, the music mastered and the crew ready and waiting, we hope that this final push for pledges will bring in the remaining slice of the budget so that we can commence filming. This is where we need your help!
2011 has not been a kind year to the world at large and so GIN PANIC and I felt that asking for donations to help an unsigned band reach a bit higher was not quite worthy enough. So far the team have raised £2000 and even with everyone in the cast and crew working for free and with countless favours granted on everything from locations and transport to costumes and camera equipment, the budget looks very likely to exceed £2500.
Whilst we promise that the first £750 donated here will go towards the film, we guarantee to then transfer our fundraising efforts towards The Migrant Workers Protection Society in the Kingdom of Bahrain. This organisation has been helping migrant workers achieve their basic human rights in the Kingdom since 2005, but has been busier than ever there in the recent clashes between protesters and government forces. The MWPS provide education, emergency lodging and even repatriation for those individuals the system sometimes forgets and yet who make up an essential, heavily depended-upon part of the work-force. GIN PANIC and the filmmakers hope that by dedicating their film to the people of Bahrain and shedding light on The Migrant Workers Protection Society and their work, we can in some small way help support the citizens caught in the crossfire.
Please pledge any amount you can afford and follow the links below over the coming months for news on how you've helped realise the creative and humanitarian goals set out by this band of London misfits!
Thank you very much,
