"Be bold and mighty forces will come to your aid." Basil King (or Goethe, according to Frances McDormand in Almost Famous.)
UPDATE! - The teaser trailer (four days after filming ended, no colour correction or effects added yet) is UP! You can find our original Sponsume video pitch here http://vimeo.com/24129422 - we were so young back then.
"5, 6, 7, 8!" follows the bold and desperate attempt of a young man who, on sight of the girl of his dreams, decides to ask her out at any cost at a local dance event. Just as he's about to talk to her, she disappears behind the big red door. As he enters the huge dance hall, she's out of sight and he's faced with a hundred bored attendees and a lounge band who'd rather be somewhere else.
Sticking to his word, he starts dancing, the way he only knows how, facing shame and humiliation, setting off a series of tiny chain reactions through the crowd.
"5, 6, 7, 8!" is a short filum with a surf rock soundtrack, no dialogue and lots of dancing!
Who are we?
This is our third short Debasers filum, which we've set up to work with people from all kinds of backgrounds interested in film. The first one was micro-budget "Tixeon", which ended up winning the top prize at the Anonimul International Film Festival in August 2010. It kickstarted our second filum, "Three-Legged Horses", which was successfully crowdfunded on Kickstarter and Sponsume. It's now off to the festival circuit. It's had already lots of great lovely things said about it. For more info, you can visit our website (www.debasers.co.uk).
What do we need?
All the money goes directly to the filum. Projects like these hang on by a thread, by the enthusiasm of the people involved. Your pledge will make that thread a little thicker, a little more solid.
We are hoping to begin filming in July in Glasgow at the Govanhill Baths. They were built in 1914 and the swimming pools and baths were used until 2001. They have been closed for the last ten years and falling into a state of disrepair. A community trust has been looking after them, holding many fundraisers over the years, with the hope of re-opening the building to the public, as a public swimming pool and community centre. A portion of our crowdfunding will go directly to the restoration of the Baths, as our fee for letting us film in the building. You can find more info about them here: (http://www.govanhillbaths.com).
For the filum itself, we need generators to power our lights (there's no power yet in the baths), catering and insurance for our crew and (numerous) extras, some camera equipment and festival applications.
The cast and most of the crew are donating their time for free to the project with the hope that it'll do well in festivals! Optimism and community play a big part in our process.
What can I get?
Fill your boots, man! In exchange for your donation, you could have your name on our website, on the poster, in the final filum, dvds of all three Debasers Filums (they're no bad), a walk-on part, a credit as Associate or Executive Producer, an invite to the very first screening with all the cast and crew at the Govanhill Baths or dinner with us.
Mostly, you'll play a part in helping us get the film made and help restore the stunning building to the public! We've been very lucky so far with the people we've got to meet making these films and we're going to keep going. It's a chance for you to say "I was there from the beginning!"
So what do I do?
Pick a voucher and pledge! Now. Tell your friends. Make them pledge too. The beauty of crowdfunding is that we don't need a lot of money, we need lots of people giving a little bit.
When do I get my stuff?
All rewards, big and small, will only happen if our target is reached. When that happens, immediately after our deadline, we will start to manufacture and ship all physical merchandise directly to you. The screenings, meet-and-greets and dvds can only happen after the film is completed so this will take a bit of time. Bear with us!
How do we get in touch?
All emails sent to will be read and replied to by Cam or myself!
Thank you very much for being here and giving us a bit of your time!
x
Felipe
Ah hello there sponsumers, love what you did with your hair today, it suits you.
But enough about you, we're making a filum. I don't know if it's all the sweet stuff I'm eating while being at my desk, but it's 1.13am and I'm fairly hyper. If you indulge in some tweeting now and again, please follow us @debasersfilums for regular updates and bouts of sugar-fueled randomness.
Let's recap: "Last week on 5, 6, 7, 8!"
We're almost fully cast. The male and female Vortices (plural of Vortex, I just checked) of Awesomeness are Cameron Hall and Katch Holmes. They have been rehearsing their dancing duel for the past week. Next week David Banks of the Glasgow Parkour Society joins in (he plays Second Fiddle) to rehearse his parkour routine with Cam.
On Tuesday, we're auditioning the last part of our dancing quartet at the Govanhill Baths in Glasgow.
I've been working closely this week with our cinematographer, Sofia Sequeiros, to draw a full storyboard, something we'd never done on any of our previous filums. Then again, this is the most ambitious project we've ever done. Feel my heart, it's beating hard.
We're halfway to our target. Cam and I have been working tirelessly (is that okay to say?) to spread the word. It's a little soon after the long and successful campaigns for Three-Legged Horses but we've got a little bit of momentum. Responses from the first festivals should arrive soon and expand our wee network of followers a little further. We've sent out the link to Three-Legged Horses to its backers and it's been incredibly humbling to see a lot of you come back and stand behind 5, 6, 7, 8! as well.
As we get closer to filming, I'll post more pictures of rehearsals and the cast, possibly one of the surf rock tunes the Head Henchmen have composed especially for the filum.
Thank you very much for being a part of this. We couldn't do it with you. x
Felipe

All pledges above £250 will feature your name on it as Associate Producer.
