New York City Girl-Saudia Young is a singer/songwriter and story teller who moved to Berlin in 2008. Young started a album project in DUMBO Brooklyn entitled “Artboy Love” and continued to develop it in Berlin, releasing a four song EP and .performing her orginal sad/dark and funny songs live, along with covers of Tom Waits, Louis Prima, Jonny Cash, Kurt Weill. During this journey Saudia and an array of international musicians developed the band’s “Dark Swing Cabaret” sound.
Dark lyrics combined with Saudia’s sultry voice and emotional stage presence and the seriously swinging band, contribute to the theatre of the Dark Cabaret.
Saudia grew up in New York’s bohemian world of writers, actors, artists and dreamers. Incorporating her wit and theatrical background in her performances.
Growing up in a bi-racial family, with an actor father and designer mother, amongst the cobble stone streets of down town New York, with it’s history of sailors and merchants, Young’s imagination soared. Saudia began writing and performing puppet plays and “radio plays” , recorded on cassette tapes at home with friends, as well as performing professionally in at age ten in Ben Dolphin’s Mutual Respect Dance Co. Young trained formally in acting with Wynn Handman , and at the Alvin AiIey American Dance Center, producing and performing in theatre and film.
