The Escape Project

Bristol, United Kingdom
FUNDED

"A bridge- it is from someone’s creativity to make this. It is very big and hard to build, but their determination makes it. This determination is like me – I will make it to the other side." - Kunthea

Kunthea's quote reflects our motivation behind The Escape Project. The project connects these girls to the world outside but without the support and response from the public, the girls do not have the community that believes in them to help their determination flourish.

Project Story

The Escape Project is a multi-arts trail through regenerated locations around Bristol’s harbourside, exhibiting artwork to support the photographs captured by young sex trafficking survivors in Cambodia.

Partnered with Transitions Global, an international pioneer in the aftercare of trafficking victims, together we aim to raise awareness of child sex trafficking and support the survivors’ journey to freedom.

The Escape Project starts at Transitions Global’s aftercare home in Cambodia, with girls who are taking part in a personal photography project.

As young victims of sex trafficking and exploitation, the project aims to enable these girls to help express their freedom and re-discover their hopes for the future. We believe that freedom without a future is simply another form of slavery.

Continuing to communicate through art rather than facts and figures, the girls’ photographs will be supported by various artwork from UK artists and exhibited together along the art trail in Bristol’s harbourside.

This is an international collaboration inspired by the girls’ personal experiences and their desire to be free. The Escape Project is a creative platform to help these young trafficking victims re-discover their hopes for a new future and create a legacy to continue the help for others.

Message from Transitions Global

Transitions Global is an international organization that restores the lives of young girls that are rescued from sex trafficking through the power of their own dreams. We believe that freedom without a future is simply another form of slavery.

"Your help in this project will bring many benefits to this young group of trafficking survivors. The girls’ involvement in this project is a pathway for them to express their dreams and begin their journey toward healing. It will help connect them to the world outside giving them a voice and a creative platform to tell their stories and realise their new hopes for the future."

- James Pond, Founder and Director of Transitions Global.

About the Girls

The girls are very excited to have the support from the UK public.
The girls (13-18 years old) are in different phases of therapy at the aftercare home. They have all been involved and have expressed themselves differently through the project’s artistic themes of “Freedom and Hope”.

Girls who have graduated from Transitions, have reintegrated into society and become anything they want from social workers, to yoga instructors, to computer specialists and language translators. The Escape Project is acknowledged by Transitions Global as a key step towards this development.
