'There is great chaos under heaven: the situation is excellent'
A Solo Exhibition of Ryan Curtis' Recent Work at Motorcade/Flashparade, Bristol. Part of the INCUBE8 series.
INCUBE8 is a series of exhibitions at Motorcade/Flashparade in Bristol providing emerging artists based in Bristol and the South West with their first significant solo show.
Although the gallery space at Motorcade/Flashparade is supported by The National Lottery through Arts Council England, financial support is still needed for the production costs, including acquisition and transportation of materials.
We hope that you will take this opportunity to help support an exciting emerging artist based in the southwest and the INCUBE8 programme as a whole. Any funding gained and not used will be donated to Motorcade/Flashparade.
There is also the chance to get your hands on limited edition, handmade, artist publications based on the exhibition, as well as other great stuff!
We need your support to make this happen, to create an exciting public exhibition, as part of a fantastic project, that highlights the quality of talent that comes from the Southwest. Your support is greatly appreciated and will be publicised no matter how much you give or how much is raised in total. The arts culture in the Southwest is something to be proud to be a part of: so lets be a part of it!
About the Exhibition and Artist
www.ryan-curtis.co.uk
Ryan Curtis' practice of sculpture and installation operates at the edge of existence, creating an almost in-between state that paradoxically insists on a more solid importance to be placed upon the object. Using found materials of personal significance with a distinct aesthetic flavour, Curtis’ work explores the paradox of revolutionary ideology and utopian dreaming using a darkly satirical and self referential humour.
Using film, sculptural installation and other objects, 'There is great chaos under heaven...' references aesthetics from bolshevik constructivism, mid to late 20th century blockbuster science-fiction film and nuclear post-apocalyptic representations. The precarious qualities of balance situate the work on the precipice of existence, highlighting its inherent futility.
About Motorcade/Flashparade
www.motorcadeflashparade.com
Motorcade/FlashParade is an artist-run project space in Bristol, providing a platform for emerging artists and hosting an annual programme of exhibitions and events. Initiated in 2009 it is fast evolving into an exciting test space for contemporary practice, supporting and encouraging the development of new work and fresh ideas.
Our programme includes INCUBE8, offering 8 artists their first solo show, a summer residency, a mini-residency and exhibition for our team of volunteers, a competition for aspiring curators, participation in BV Open Studios supporting BV Studio artists with whom we share a building, as well as our annual National Open. We also consider proposals for exhibitions and welcome applications all year round.
We host a range of activities to support contemporary practice, foster peer learning and invite participation from a wider audience.
We are a test space, a laboratory, a launch pad and a stage.
INCUBE8, the Summer Residency, the curating competition and the mini-residency and exhibition for our team of volunteers are all supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
