Savage Witches

SYNOPSIS

Teenage witches Gretchen and Margarita constantly find themselves in trouble for their eccentric and childlike games. After a severe telling off by their headmaster they condemn all society as pointless and retreat to their secret hideaway in the woods. We'll follow as they set about a new exploration, where they challenge and transform the world around them through their games of magic and storytelling!

SAVAGE WITCHES is to be a playful and experimental film with an aesthetic approach inspired by our two key inspirations: Daisies (Vera Chytilová) and Hausu (Nobuhiko Obayashi).

SAVAGE WITCHES is an ode to cinema, to the magic of cinema, to filmmaking as an art form, as a tool for expression and exploration; it will be made without signing our souls to the Devil!

WHY WE ARE CROWD-FUNDING

SAVAGE WITCHES is being financed through sponsorship from individuals. We have made a conscious choice to not accept money from any organisation or parties that will impose compromises on the production. Thanks to digital technology we live in a time when it is possible to make ambitious films on a low budget; we believe the potential of this liberation has not been fully embraced. Most filmmakers, even those working independently, still work within a structure established by the film industry which is motivated by profit rather than creativity and a desire to explore and develop the art and language of cinema. We believe in true independence, art should not be controlled by the bureaucrats that fund films in the UK.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

We have already raised £3000 through donations from individuals, companies and from our fund-raising events but we still need to raise another £3000 to reach our £6000 target by the end of July 2011. See www.savagewitches.co.uk for a budget breakdown to show how this money will be spent.

We don't want to take the money and run, we want you to come and see the film when it is finished and be a part of the celebration.
