Okay, so what are you selling?
'Him Indoors' is a black comedy short starring the wonderful Reece Shearsmith (The League of Gentlemen & Psychoville) and Pollyanna McIntosh (The Woman & Burke & Hare). It's written and directed by Paul Davis (Beware the Moon - Remembering An American Werewolf in London) and produced by James Pears (The Other Side).
I'm listening. What's it about?
Gregory Brewster (Shearsmith) is a serial killer. For twenty-years he has gone undetected as the sole cause for the disappearance of over fifteen people on the streets of South London. There's only one problem though... Gregory is agoraphobic, and hasn't physically set foot on the streets of South London since he was a teenager. With the lease on his deceased mother's home quickly approaching expiration - and eviction a horrific certainty, Gregory must elevate his calculated methods of luring victims to his home to an alarming crescendo - with the hope that he will never have to set foot in the outside world again.
Is there blood?
There is blood!
Good. What else can you tell me about it?
The idea quite literally comes from a morbid curiousity as to how exactly a mass murderer would operate when he's not even able to leave his own home. How does he get his victims to come to him? And more importantly... how does he dispose of the bodies? With this story in particular I was motivated by the fine line between insanity and stupidity - take Dennis Nilsen's arrest by 'Dyno-Rod', for example. With this character in particular, I want to explore the idea that his fear of the outside world is far greater than that of getting caught - and while highly intellegent, a simple slice of logic will ultimately make his worst fear a reality.
The film is scheduled to be shot in London over two days at the end of July, with the aim to be completed by the end of August.
Okay, sounds interesting, but who are you exactly?
My name is Paul Davis. I'm a filmmaker from London. I made my first film a few years back called BEWARE THE MOON which is a feature length (98mins) retrospective on the making of the John Landis classic AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON. It was released on the Blu-Ray and 'Full Moon Edition' DVD of the movie in 2009 and had it's world premier at Film4 Frightfest in London (introduced by Director John Landis) and it's North American premier at The New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles (introduced by Academy Award Winning Special Effects Make-Up Artist, Rick Baker). Since then I've written a book on horror movies (out next year) and done a little bit of acting - mainly large killer type people (it's the curse of being near 7-foot!), but now is the time for me to get back behind the lens and make lovely stories for the enjoyment of your eyeballs!
Producer James Pears is fresh off of his first short, THE OTHER SIDE. The film is set to be making the festival circuit this Summer and features an array of talented professionals from the world of film. Pears started his career as a runner on Music Video sets whilst studying at the University of Miami. Eventually he climbed the ladder to line producer, often collaborating with various companies such as Vulpine Films. James' tireless dedication to the cause at hand and his uncompromising desire for the best production value makes him the perfect guy to help bring this vision to life. Once you guys see THE OTHER SIDE, you'll know what I mean.
But wait, isn't that Paul fellow supposed to be in development on a feature film?
You are quite correct. Last December I announced that I was in development with writer James Moran and Producer Jennifer Handorf on a feature project titled SILENT NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD. This is still very much happening and set to shoot early next year with previously announced cast members AJ Bowen (House of the Devil) and Tom Savini (From Dusk Till Dawn). This project is purely a warm up exercise to show potential investors that I am capable of directing actors and have ability to shoot a piece that is relatively similar in tone to what we will be doing on the feature - horror, comedy and drama.
On this I will be working with a number of industry professionals who will later lend their remarkable talents to SILENT NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD - including our lead actor on this, Reece Shearsmith (The Cottage), Special Effects Supervisor Dan Martin (Sightseers), Make-Up Designer Jenna Wrage (Storage 24), Composer Osymyso and Director of Photography, Eben Bolter (Confine) - you can check out his show reel at www.ebenbolter.com.
In addition to those mentioned above, we do have some more exciting people on the cast and crew that we are set to announce in the coming weeks, so stay tuned!
So what do you want from us?
We want this to be the absolute best it can be. Plain and simple. While the premise and set up is very simplistic, production value isn't cheap. The money will be spent on paying our cast and crew, renting locations, professional gadgety-do-dahs for our DoP to play with and of course all the expenses that come with making the finished piece look shiney! Basically, we want this to look and sound as stunning as possible - and that is where we need YOUR help. No donation is too small and as you can see we have a lot of cool rewards for those who contribute - including tons of signed goodies from Reece. You can also help us by posting this page to your Facebook time lines, tweeting about us and/or emailing our link to family and friends who enjoy a 'bloody' good flick. We have three weeks to reach our target of £5,000, so PLEASE, if you want to see Reece Shearsmith playing a completley bonkers serial killer with agoraphobia, donate and share.
You don't need a Paypal account to donate. You can also make a contirbution via Credit or Debit card. Also, you don’t have to be based in the UK to donate either. Donations are accepted in Euros and US dollars as well as British pounds so wherever you are, please contribute whatever you can.
WE LOVE YOU!!!!!
Okay, so once it's finished, then what?
Our ultimate goal is to make a funny, scary, creepy and visually appealing piece of short cinema. Once we have something that we are happy with, we intend to submit the film to various film festivals over the world - including Frightfest, Sitges, Screamfest LA etc. Once it has played the circuit we will make the film available to the public online. However, if you want to see the movie once it's done? You'll have to be one of our contributors.
Thank you for you time!
Paul
