About Me
My name is Shauna McGowan. I am a Visual Artist/Published Illustrator specialising in Screen Printing. I create unique Screen Prints on leather for Fine Art and Fashion Applications.Studying Fashion and Textile design, specializing in screen-printing has enabled me to illuminate diverse surfaces with my strong, graphic drawing skills.
I have exhibited throughout Ireland, China and Finland, Brussels and the USA. My next exhibition will be at the Art at Wharepuke Gallery, New Zealand in Spring 2013.
Project Outline
I have been invited to exhibit at the Art at Wharepuke Gallery in New Zealand alongside 2 Irish Printmakers in Spring 2013.This is an opportunity to showcase my unique approach to screen printing on leather to an international audience. The Art at Wharepuke Gallery is set within the award winning 2 hectare Wharepuke subtropical garden on Kerikeri’s Stone Store Hill. This will be the furthest point my work has traveled, roughly 11000 miles.
In preparation for the creation of this new body of work I will study a Surface Pattern for Leather course at the London College of Fashion in August 2012. During this course I will learn how leather can be coloured, dyed, moulded, textured and finished in many different ways. These new skills will enable me to push the boundaries of my artistry.
Following on from this I will create a new body of work that will travel to New Zealand for exhibition in March 2013.Crowd Funding is an exciting opportunity for people to own unique pieces of artwork whilst helping me obtain new skills and to then exhibit this work in New Zealand. Funding is required to cover course fees and purchase much needed materials including leather hides/screen printing frames and emulsion/textile binders and printing papers.

Crowd funding is an exciting opportunity to support a creative project in exchange for unique pieces of artwork. I am offering a variety of limited edition and unique pieces of artwork to all supporters of this project. All donations are welcome and shall be acknowledged with Art ranging from screen-printed thank you cards to bespoke leather capes. This is an opportunity to obtain artwork at exclusive prices as gallery commission is removed. You will receive your unique piece of artwork in early 2013 to coincide with the exhibition opening.
All support is greatly appreciated and will be the lifeblood of this project. This exhibition will be a milestone in my career as an emerging artist so I would like to thank you for looking at this project and sharing the information with your friends. Inspiration for this new body of work
The ethos of my work combines Pop Art Sensibility’s with traditional print making techniques.A magpie in a past life I am drawn to metallic surfaces and shiny vibrant things. My work often reflects the candy-coated nature of society, with great horrors often being masked in a façade of glamour. I am interested in the juxtaposition of beauty and darkness within society and our history. I am often inspired by the theme of mythology.
