Hello! My name is Luthien and I am a 21 year old corset maker from the UK :) This is me:
I have loved corsets my whole life, and made them for the past decade.
In January, I took a look at my work from the past few years and was shocked at how little I had improved. My work didn't stand out from the crowd, and if I wanted to make a name for my self and make my dream of making corsets full time a reality something would have to change.
I vowed to make 2012 my year of improvement, pouring hours into studying and practicing new techniques, imrpoving with leaps and bounds with each new piece.
I have attended workshops and summerschools, and even restarted at college studying Production Arts with a specialism in corsetry.
I'm thrilled with my progress, and really feel my work is starting to develop it's own style rather than the generic pieces I was producing before.
Overbust corset with lots of hand sewn lace and hand applied swarovski crystals. Worn by Darkteaser:
Last month I took a huge leap and booked a place to run a stall at the Birmingham alternative and burlesque fair.
Why is this a huge leap? Well, I have never run an event like this before, and I am both nervous and excited about how my work will go down.
As my work has improved I have grown in confidence that I am able to produce high quality pieces with a wonderful aesthetic, and now I want the world to know!
I have been working very hard to produce lots of goodies to sell on my stall, as I am aware that my work is much better appreciated when custom made.
As a result I have a selection of beautiful pasties, nipple tassels, showgirl bodies and waist cinchers made to take with me, as well as a beautiful green corset and skirt, dubbed my "Hera" outfit.
The corset is fully boned, and is embellished with over 200 swarovski crystals, and 20 peacock feathers. The skirt is a wonderful floorlength skirt with a hand pleated trim at the bottom edge and a wonderful swooping train at the back.

I am extremely proud of this piece ad feel it showcases my style and talents wonderfully. I am planning on displaying it on my mannequin at the stall.
I have also been working on another corset to display at the event:
At this point the corset is still being constructed - it features a very low cut front, is made from exquisite pale blue silk shot with pale pink, and will be adorned with a cluster of silver flowers which lead to a trail of Swarovski crystals, and silk flossing on the boning channels.
I will also be making a wonderful silk and lace skirt with crystal details.
My project is to raise the money for another mannequin so that I can showcase this second and very different piece, the way it deserves.
Wasp waisted mannequins are rather dear, but also the only way to effectively display a corset, and it would mean a great deal to me if I was able to show people the quality of my work in the striking and gorgeous way it deserves.
I have an action packed week this week. On Sunday I had some of my corsets photographed by the very charming, and exeedingly talented, Kate Elizabeth ( http://www.facebook.com/KatelizabethPhotographyPage?fref=ts )
We were shooting at Ettington Park hotel which was one of my favourite places growing up, and was the location for the original of the horror film "The Haunting" and I had the honour of working with Lady Amaranth as a model ( http://www.facebook.com/lady.amaranth?fref=ts )
I'm really excited to show you all the images, as there were 3 never before seen corsets photographed :)
I have also been busy sending out the last of my current Sponsume rewards to my lovely backers.
I have all sorts of goodies on the way over the next few days - a banner with my company name and web address on for the stall, a selection of postcards with images of my work on and some amazing Victorian lace which is for a college project, but which will definitely be cropping up in my work :)
I've also been busy working on customer orders as I have a couple of awesome pieces in at the moment which I am really enjoying working on. I have some stunning shades of swarovski crystals on the way for those, and am enjoying beinng trusted with more "ornamental" pieces now people are starting to become fans of my style and choosing to work with me specifically, rather than just landing on me as a custom corset maker by chance.
So things are starting to heat up in the run up to the stall, but I am still confident it will be a brilliant opportunity and I will love evry second of it! :)
My beautiful mannequin is here!
thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far and made this possible - it really is the most amazing feeling to know that you all believe in me and appreciate my work enough to make this happen.
I wanted to share this image with you - it's an exclusive sneak preview of a piece I have been working on for a photoshoot.
I drafted this pattern at the Sew Curvy/ Sparklewren patterning masterclass and I am incredibly proud with how it has turned out.
It features quilted hip gores, which really excentuate the dramatic curves of this piece. I have also spent a lot of time embellishing thie piece with hundreds of emerald swarovski crystals across the black chantilly lace and the hip gores - they don't show up so well heree, but hopefully they will be dazzling on the pictures I get back from this photoshoot :)
