About me

I’m the Writer and Director of this project. I graduated in 2010 with a BA (Hons) in Film Production from The Arts University College, Bournemouth.

I Directed a short film in my final year, ‘The Killer Cure’, as an independent project with a very small crew and this was not part of my coursework. It was screened at a film festival that year.

I also gained some very valuable experience by volunteering on other students’ projects. Directing and making films is very much something I want to do and one of the many reasons I decided to do Film at University.

It was back in college when I did A level Film Studies and studied the work of Akira Kurosawa and Quentin Tarantino that I became inspired to make films. Spaceman is my first short since leaving University and I have other projects lined up to make in the coming months.

I plan to enter it into festivals and get it screened at a local cinema.

As you can see from my profile, we already managed to raise £410 from a previous sponsume fundraiser (though deduct 9 % in sponsume fees!) - the goal for this fundraiser was £1500 though I am now trying to be a bit more realistic in terms of drumming up support for the fundraiser, as I went into the previous one not realising how hard it would actually be!

I have decided to do another one at a much more do able target and make it last 2 months rather than one! Though I now absoultely plan to shoot in July (still deciding between 2 weekends, this all depends on locations) and need to raise the full target of this fundraiser and it would be awesome if we can raise al ittle extra, especially to stop sponsume taking 9 % in their fees!

Please help me to achieve my goal! Donate what you can, tell your friends, relatives, neighbours, co workers- anyone you know who may be able to help! Previous backers, if you want to donate a bit extra, you are most welcome to and your help is very much appreciated!

Synopsis

Just like Toby, when I was small I wanted to go off into space and be an astronaut. I still do!

Toby is a bright and bubbly young boy who wants nothing more than to be an astronaut, but he doesn’t understand what it means. He just knows he wants to be a ‘spaceman’.

We see him demonstrating his dreams in the classroom and at home when he’s so excited that the last piece of his spaceship has arrived. But he has to wait to build it and we see him get frustrated. Does he end up building his spaceship and zooming off into the stars?

I’m quite into sci-fi and wanted to do something that was fun, imaginative and playful. I think Spaceman fits all of the criteria I set when planning ideas for shorts to make. By having the main character be a very young child, we can capture that youthful innocence and genuine energy with this character. This will be a very creative project and enable me to fully show my filming skills. I look forward to building Toby's spaceship as much as he will!!

What will the money go on?

The money will be used to hire out locations (a classroom and a house), for extra equipment including lights, costumes, props and all those little extras that go into making a short film! All of the money raised will go on production. I will also be entering the film into festivals on completion.

Cast

I have had quite a lot of interest for all of the roles from placing casting calls and look forward to auditioning the cast. I have quite a few boys interested in playing Toby and interest from 2 local drama schools. Casting will play a major part of making this film perfect.

Crew

I will be Directing/ Producing and camera operating, I have people for lighting, costume, as well as sound recording and editing in place. I also have a few other people interested in helping out with filming.

Hey guys,

Apologies for no updates in the run up to shooting and during the shoot. It got a bit manic, especially over the last 2 days while we were filming!

Filming went really well and I'm very pleased with how it all went.

Onto editing now!

Hey guys,

A massive thank you to everyone who backed the project and helped spread the word via social networking sites.

It's taken a while to get to this stage but I can finally tell you that we will be filming in 2 weeks time.

We almost have everything in place to film and it's getting to a very exciting stage in the project.

Apologies there haven't been any updates prior to this but I will be posting various updates in the run up to filming and if I can, also updates on the 2 filming days so you all know how it's going.

Thanks again for believing in the project.

You may have seen that a poster has been added on to one of the perks!

I had tweeted that anyone who donates over £35 would get a poster but only on set days! I want to make this available to everyone who has donated over £35 to make it fair for everyone so everyone who has already donated over £35 or considers doing so, you will get an awesome poster! On completion of the film of course and it will be signed by myself and mailed to you!
