A bit about us...
POLiTiKER Productions is a young, London-based theatre company with grown-up ideas. We are taking our updated version of Wilde's famous play to the Fringe Festival in Brighton, and we need your help!
A bit about the project...
An Art Deco twist on Oscar Wilde's classic High Victorian play. Join us for tea and cucumber sandwiches in the age of louche living. Lady Bracknell is appalled that a man of unsure bloodline wants to marry her daughter. What an old Nazi...
The 1930s was a time of political and economic upheaval. Facism and totalitarian socialism - be it Stalin's soviet socialism or Hitler's national socialism - haunted Europe at a time when the Great Depression had led many to question the very future of capitalism and liberal democracy. Wilde's "trivial comedy for serious people" thus takes on a darker edsge and his cute aphorisms now hang a little longer in the air. "It's absurd to have a hard and fast rule about what one should read and what one shouldn't," says Algy. "More than half of modern culture depends on what one shouldn't read..." This is at a time when Hitler is burning books - including the works of Oscar Wilde.
Why we need your money...
We are taking this piece to the fabulously art deco Metrodeco tea salon in Brighton's Kemp Town, and in order for us to take it there and make it at it's best we need you to help us. Your money will go towards the cost of keeping us off the streets for the time we're at the Fringe, and will also go towards covering the myriad of tiny costs that mount up when one is staging a play. The lighting, the sound, the costumes and the props will all be influenced by your donations. Most of all, your money will help us take this project off the page and turned into a living an breathing thing, and we'd love for you to be a part if it.
