Farewell To Cold Winter CD

Co. Down, IE
FUNDED

My name is Fil Campbell and I'm an Irish folk singer - For the past 5 years I have been fascinated by the Irish folk songs that formed the backdrop to Ireland of the 30s, 40s and 50s and the singers who made them famous. I was fortunate to make a television series about these women singers a few years ago called Songbirds, the First Ladies of Irish Song and to release a CD collection of the most popular of these songs.

Farewell To Cold Winter CD is the brainchild of Fil. Fil needs to raise £1,500 within 37 days. If you want to make this project happen, pledge a minimum of £15 now.

We have the CD recorded and mixed (you can hear some of the tracks on the MP3s we're posting here) and I am asking for support in order to release it and to give it some promotion to the Irish population abroad and at home. I have included some fun pledge items as well as pledging to an advance purchase of the CD.

As I have been touring around Europe and America with Tom and Brendan, we have noticed the profound effect these old songs have on people of the generation that grew up with them - particularly on people suffering from Alzheimer's, who in spite of not knowing their own name can still sing every word of Let Him Go, or The Spinning Wheel. So for that reason i am proposing to donate 10% of what you pledge to our local Hospice in Newry.

The songs on this CD are as follows:

The Lowlands of Holland
Old Maid in the Garrett
The Connemara Shore
The Bonny Boy
Johnny the Daisy O (with special guest John Sheahan from the Dubliners)
My Lagan Love
Down by the Green Bushes
Seoladh na nGamhna (with special guests Steve Cooney and Laoise Kelly)
The Scent of the Roses (Farewell But Whenever by Thomas Moore)
Let him Go, Let Him Tarry,
The Hills of Glenswilly
She Moved Through the Fair

The musicians are:

James Blennerhassett (bass)
Seamus Brett (accordion, piano)
Steve Cooney (guitar on Seoladh na nGamhna)
Brendan Emmett (mandolin, guitars, banjo)
John Fitzpatrick (fiddle, strings)
Laoise Kelly (harp on Seoladh na nGamhna)
Tomas Lynch (whistles on The Lowlands of Holland)
Tom McFarland (bodhran, percussion, drums, backing vocals)
Brendan Monaghan (whistles, uilleann pipes)
John Sheahan (fiddle and whistle)
Steve Wyckham (fiddle)

The CD was recorded at our home studio at Ballyneddan Cottage outside Rostrevor in Co. Down - engineered and mixed by Tom McFarland.
