Hello!
Commensalis is a group of artists from Wales, Scotland and England.
We’re based in Swansea and we're dedicated to making art public, putting art into places where it can be seen, rather than locking it away in 'white cube' galleries. We’re organising pop-up exhibitions wherever we can and we’re planning one in Bath from July the 8th to the 14th 2013. We don't get any public funding and it's expensive to put on an art show so we’re trying to raise a few hundred pounds to help us with our costs .
We’ll be exhibiting our work at the historic Walcot Mortuary Chapel and we need some financial help to cover getting everything up to Bath, and also towards the cost of our artists travelling up each day to sit in on the exhibition. The show is free and will be on for a week and we’ve put together a selection of arty rewards, on the right of this page, for people who can spare a few pounds to sponsor us.
Commensalis is Printmaker Kara Seaman, Collagist Melanie Ezra, Photographic artists Owen Martin and Rhys Jones and scribbler and printmaker Rose Davies. Our exhibition in Bath will also feature a local guest artist sculptor and maker, Jeni Wood. Thank you for visiting this site and showing an interest in our work. We hope you find some rewards here that might tempt you to sponsor us.
The word Commensalis comes from Medieval Latin and it reflects a commensal relationship, that can involve one organism using another for housing, or utilising something created after its death. We artists are inhabiting a chapel created for the departed. We are using this house of the dead to house our work. Our relationship towards each other is symbiotic. The spirit of Commensalis is reflected in the work we choose to place in this chapel that once housed the dead.
PLEASE LOOK AT THE GALLERY BELOW TO SEE THE REWARDS WE'RE OFFERING. IF YOU SEE SOMETHING YOU LIKE, PLEASE CLICK ON THE LINK FOR THAT ITEM IN THE COLUMN ON THE RIGHT OF THE PAGE. THANKS
