About My Project
'To America' is the the title of my new project in which I will travel from from my home in Northern Ireland to the United States and spend an extended period of time travelling from east to west, documenting the American landscape along the way through my drawings, paintings and photographs.
To help promote this project, I have chosen to use crowdfunding. This will give backers the opportunity to support an exciting creative project in exchange for a unique piece of original artwork from me, the artist.
The nature of the project means that as well as all of the work on offer being original, it will be available within a considerably lower price bracket than if you were to commission a piece or purchase from a gallery exhibition.
Having had the opportunity to study for a year in the United States, it has always been an ambition of mine to travel across the country, recording on canvas the wonderful diversity the American landscape has to offer. Over the last number of years I have built up a large series of photographs from short famiy trips and holidays in the United States. Nothing though, can compare to the experience of working on location for an extended period of time. Drawing and painting on site will be of tremendous value in gaining an understanding of the surrounding environment.
On my return to Northern Ireland, I will create a new body of large-scale work based on the photographs, preparatory sketches and small paintings I've created whilst on my journey. Oil paintings depicting areas of ordinary, everyday America. Scenes that often characterise simplicity, even emptiness, such as gas stations, motels, old diners and drive-ins. Places omnipresent in American urban and suburban landscapes that may othen be neglected and overlooked willl be transformed on canvas into something vibrant and engaging.

"McCrory's work is not for the faint hearted. There is an edginess and rawness attaching to practically all of his paintings. It is the work of a serious young painter who chooses not to take the least line of resistance".
- Eamonn Mallie (Political Broadcaster/Author)
"McCrory's works are not just a deadpan depictions of the actual. They reflect that critical balance between seeing and feeling which the very best documentary artists seek to achieve."
- Mike McCann, Honorary Secretary Royal Ulster Academy
