I'm a singer, musician, record producer, ethnologist and arts worker from Arbroath on Scotland's east coast, now based in Edinburgh.
I graduated from Edinburgh University’s School of Scottish Studies in 2000, and have played for the past 12 years with one of Scotland’s leading folksong groups, Malinky, Scottish Folk Band of the Year 2010.
From 2002-2007, I was Traditional Arts Officer for the City of Edinburgh Council, overseeing the inception of the Cèilidh Culture festival, a city-wide celebration of traditional Scottish music, song, dance and storytelling. From 2007-2010, I worked for the Tobar an Dualchais / Kist o Riches project as a Scots Song cataloguer, digitising and cataloguing material from the School of Scottish Studies archive.
I now work as a performer, freelance researcher, and advocate for Scottish traditional arts, and I'm currently the Chair of the Traditional Music Forum in Scotland, and Secretary of the Hamish Henderson Archive Trust.
