Edinburgh Fringe 2013

Submitted by gregory on

The 2013 Edinburgh Fringe Festival has begun, running from 2nd – 26th August, with over 2,500 acts set to perform everything from Comedy shows to Cabaret to Exhibitions, Music, Theatre, and Dance performances.

Crowdfunding has become a popular method for many performers in helping them to cover the costs of funding the creative arts, and more Edinburgh Fringe Festival projects have been supported using Sponsume this year than ever before, highlighting the importance of this still relatively new source of funding.

Here are some of the key statistics highlighting just how much Sponsume has helped to fund 2013 Edinburgh Fringe projects.

  • 40 Edinburgh Fringe projects have been launched on Sponsume this year so far

  • 1037 individual pledges of money have been made across these 40 Edinburgh Fringe projects

  • Collectively, over £40,000 has been pledged

  • Many of the projects are still open for backers to pledge their support

  • The funding targets for these projects ranges from £500 to £6,682

  • 38% of these projects have raised more than £1,000

  • 60% of these projects have raised more than £500

Most successful Edinburgh Fringe campaign 2013

The highest amount of money raised was by the ‘Wot? No Fish!!’ project, which previewed in London to overwhelming praise. The team hope showing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival will be a springboard that leads to opportunities for the show to tour across the UK and even internationally. Sponsume helped the project to raise more than £5,500 of its £5,000 target, and it also received the highest number of individual backers with 123.

Registration for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival is still open, so there’s time to launch a crowdfunding campaign if you’d like to perform and need help raising funds. To help you get started, you may want to read our guide on The Seven Deadly Sins of Crowdfunding.
