Spurred on by their new found independence and an opportunity to perform at London's Globe Theatre in May 2012 as part of the World Shakespeare Festival, a group of South Sudanese dramatists, advised and led by three of South Sudan’s most respected cultural leaders, have come together to form the South Sudan Theatre Company.
Under the shadow of war South Sudan experimented with theatrical form, and created performance in streets, camps for displaced people, towns and the countryside. Independence is a huge opportunity for South Sudan to manage its cultural identity proudly as an independent people.
After 50 years of conflict, SSTC represents a unique opportunity for the new country of South Sudan and an historic moment in the history of the South Sudanese nation.
