The Good Enough Mums Club is a poignant and hilarious musical toddle through the highs, lows and sleep deprivation of mummyhood.
From peeing on sticks to drooping tits we share the love and dispel the myths with enough wipes on hand to mop the tears and clean away the snotty laughter.
Five women, thrown together by motherhood overcome their isolation, loneliness, judgment and desire for perfection to discover that they’re stronger as a group than as individuals, and that sometimes, being good enough, is best.
Written by actresses and exhausted mothers, Emily Beecher & Sally Samad, with music by Chris Passey and Amy Carroll, directed by Charlotte Conquest, choreography by Drew McOnie and musical direction & arrangement by Joe Louis Robinson.
As a company we are deeply committed to assisting women return to work in the arts after having children. Early on in the process we made the decision that we would only hire actresses who were mothers to ensure we were creating roles for those who might otherwise struggle to find work in an industry that already under-represents women. We do our best to rehearse during family friendly hours and even contribute to childcare costs for those who need it. We truly believe that no one should have to choose between the work they love and raising a family.
The show was a huge success at workshop in October playing two sold out performances to rapt and exuberant audiences. In fact the company were overwhelmed by the extreme emotional response from audiences – people were deeply touched by the show regardless of gender and whether or not they had children. We believe this is because while the show covers a range of topics that are specific to motherhood, the overarching theme of acceptance and honesty are far-reaching and effecting.
So far, completely on our own, we have organised and booked a multi-venue, 60-performance tour around the UK, including the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. This is where we need your help - we need to raise funds! This is a chance for you to support this amazing new musical as well showing the arts industry that with a few minor changes it is not only possible for women to return to work after having children but that their experiences can make their work exceptional.
We thank you in advance for your help & support!
All the best,
Emily & Sally
