Processing Newspaper

Liverpool, GB
FUNDED

WE'VE DONE IT!!! Thank you to everyone has generously contributed and supported our campaign. We're utterly thrilled by your support. xx

What we want to fund:

We need your help to fund a 24-page colour newspaper that will be a key part of the exhibition Processing. The exhibition will be held at The Cornerstone Gallery in Liverpool in June 2013.

Processing has been devised in response to three significant and unseen bodies of work that photographers Kevin Casey, Stephen King and McCoy Wynne have been undertaking. These works are in advanced stages of development but are considered as 'works in progress'.

By instigating critical collaborations with writers in the months leading up to the exhibition, the project aims to positively impact the future direction of these works and to challenge the individual working processes that created them.

The newspaper is vital in demonstrating this process. It will chart key cross art form collaborations between the photographers and artist Joni Karanka, and writers Linda Pittwood and Kenn Taylor.

It will provide another platform for the project; a space to experiment, test out ideas and promote critical debate around the key themes of the project. It will contextualise the conversations and meetings between the photographers and writers that will form the basis of the exhibition.

The newspaper:

When it is fresh off the printing press, you will open the tabloid sized newspaper and find:

  • 4 newly commissioned texts by Joni Karanka, Linda Pittwood, Kenn Taylor and Jack Welsh.
  • 4 pages dedicated to each of the photographers works, including inspiration, ideas and current thinking behind the work.
  • Unseen images of the photographers work, including the inspiration and ideas behind these on going 'works in progress' and images.
  • A page recognising crowdfunding partners in the project.

The newspaper will be distributed across Liverpool as part of the LOOK/13 International Photography Festival in Liverpool, reaching the 225,000+ visitors expected to visit the city for the festival.

To fully realise the potential of the project, we need your support.

How you can get involved:

Your financial support in raising the £900 needed to print the newspaper will make you a partner in the project. Your generosity will significantly aid the development and distribution of new written and photographic works through a high quality piece of design.

By contributing you will be regularly updated and your contribution will be rewarded with one of the rewards listed below. Your help will be a crucial part of a wider support base that is driving this exciting project.

Cost:

The £900 we need to raise will cover design, printing of 1,000 copies of the newspaper. A print run of 24 pages full colour will cost £787, and taking into account Sponsume/PayPal fees and costs of rewards, this total hits £900.

The exhibition:

Processing will be held at The Cornerstone Gallery, Liverpool, from 7 June - 29 September 2013. It is part of the Parallel Programme of the LOOK/13 International Photography Festival in Liverpool during May and June.

The exhibition will result in 27 new photographic and written works curated to reflect the outcomes of these collaborations. The newspaper is vital in creating a strong conceptual link and lasting legacy for the project.

You can find more information here: processingproject.wordpress.com

The collaborations:

Kevin Casey will be exhibiting work from his unseen Chamber series documenting the staff, patients and inner workings of the UK’s decompression chambers, highlighting the various uses of Hyperbaric medicine and its practices. Joni Karanka, artist and co-founder of the Third Floor Gallery in Cardiff, will be producing a text in response to the Chamber series.

Stephen King will be exhibiting work from his recent project ‘Here To There’. The project is an on going survey of 'desire paths' - a term coined by architectural planners and human geographers to describe footpaths that are gradually worn into the environment between recognised pathways or buildings. Stephen will be collaborating with Linda Pittwood, an exhibition coordinator and arts writer based in Liverpool.

McCoy Wynne will be exhibiting work from Triangulation an on-going five-year project to visit each of the Primary triangulation points built and measured between 1936 and 1962 by the Ordnance Survey for a project known as the Retriangulation of Great Britain. The project intends to visit all 314 points and, using the pillar as a point of reference, produce 360-degree panoramas of the topographical view. McCoy Wynne will be working with Kenn Taylor, a writer, journalist and project manager based in Liverpool, on documenting the next triangulation point in the series.

I am utterly delighted to say that your amazing support and generosity has meant we have hit our target and have raised 100% of the total required to print 1,000 copies of a special newspaper for Processing.

This wouldn't have been possible without the fantastic support you have shown over the past month.

I look forward to keeping you informed over the next few weeks as the newspaper is finalised, printed and distributed.

Thank you.
