GOOD PRESS

Museums Press is an independent publishing house based in Glasgow, UK. We release zines, prints and artists books and organise exhibitions, events and group projects. We work with visual artists and contemporary illustrators from around the world to release publications of their work. Our aim and focus is to create a quality output where the artists work is key. Museums Press is run by Matthew Walkerdine and Jessica Higgins. We are both practicing artists and self-publishers and understand how difficult it is find outlets and exhibition spaces to stock and show your work.

Our next step is Good Press, a permanent outlet including a gallery, bookshop and small cafe to showcase individual artists and groups who are independently practising their artforms and projects. In the lead up to this we plan to open a series of temporary exhibition spaces in unused shops across Glasgow to raise funds and awareness of the project; this is where you come in...

We need £1000 to set us off with the basic costs for these three shows, such as making the spaces presentable, accessible and a nice place to be in, getting some furniture and materials to present works, the costs for shipping art and promoting the project to the general public.

Glasgow is a great city for DIY culture and there are a lot of independent contemporary art galleries which is really encouraging for us and those who live in and visit the city. However, a home for the kind of visual art and illustration that is so apparent in so many other cities around the world isn’t represented here in a permanent way! Nor is there a real outlet for self-published and self- produced books, zines and other printed matter at an affordable price. We want to make the space a welcoming, unintimidating place for people of all walks of life to see work and have their work seen and be encouraged to do so, as well as be open for community events such as artist talks, film screenings and workshops.
