Five By Five

Oxford, United Kingdom
FUNDED

Hi and welcome to our Sponsume page. We appreciate you having a look around. Five by Five is a project set up by a group of film professionals who are passionate about making independent films. We believe that by combining our resources, we can take the average cost of one short film, and make five! We have five directors and five great scripts, and between us a wealth of film experience and different skills to bring to the project. What we are looking for is investment from people who love film, and love the idea of our project, to make it a reality!

She has also worked on several TV commercials including Walkers Crisps, Census 2011 and most recently Heinz Beans.

Lisa will be Art Director on the project.

What does your money buy?

All of our cast and crew are kindly donating their time for free, and we are sourcing some of the camera and lighting equipment needed through friends and contacts in the industry. But we still need money to cover the basic costs of production, such as props, transportation, food for cast and crew, extra equipment, and (for the science fiction aspects) some visual effects work! All the money raised will be spent on making the films even better – and remember, our project is a collaboration, so you will get to see not one but FIVE films getting made for just ONE donation!

The Shoot

All five films are currently in production in Oxfordshire (Feb 2012).

Smells like Team Spirit
Thursday, 23 February, 2012 - 16:54

It’s day 6 on the Five by Five shoot, and by the end of today’s filming we should have Scent of Success wrapped. We were lucky enough to have Georgia Waters with us for the morning of yesterdays shoot, before her evening performance in Mephisto at The Oxford Playhouse. Also making a brief appearance was Tim Major. Once again he had everyone in fits of laughter, which bodes well for the finished film!

With yesterdays shooting pretty much on schedule there was time for most of the crew to socialise back at Five by Five towers. It’s almost impossible to believe that the crew only came together last Friday. It really has become like a family, with everyone mucking in where necessary, egos have been well and truly left at home and I think that the spirit of the project will come through in the finished films.

Yesterday we were treated to some of James Lyons’ superb photography. One of James’ photos is so good we can’t share it with you, at least not yet. It’s sure to be the DVD cover for Scent of Success and it would spoil the surprise if we revealed it now. So please be patient, the moment he captured will be shared in the fullness of time and is guaranteed to raise a smile!

5x5

One down four to go.
Monday, 20 February, 2012 - 15:48

After a massive effort by our talented cast and crew over the last weekend we can happily report that “Letter to Jane” is wrapped and only a few hours behind schedule. We’ve had a chance to view the rushes and are very satisfied with what we’ve seen. Lisa’s sugar glass worked wonderfully. Keith Newby didn’t break anything during his stunts and no one got frostbite! We really can’t wait to see the edit, but that might just have to wait!

Shooting for “Give Me Fiction” has already started. Josh was able to take advantage of SteadiOp for the first part of Sunday’s schedule, before the big Steadicam-break in scene on “Jane”. The weather, whilst cold was bright, dry and about as good for filming out doors as you could ever realistically expect in February. For the “Chase Scene” we were able to use the “Fly Car” and “SteadiCam” combination. The resulting shots should be stunning. Today it’s been back to the “Give Me Fiction” set in Horspath and if all goes to plan “Fiction” will wrap tomorrow evening!

We’ve been overwhelmed by the enthusiasm shown for the project so far. So many of you have helped to make this possible and over the last few days, several people have asked if it was too late to donate. As a result we’ve managed to extend this Sponsume crowd funder until Feb 27th. If you would like to help complete this fantastic project please do, we really appreciate it.

If you’d like to se pictures of the shoot, or follow the project more closely, please check out our Facebook page, here: https://www.facebook.com/fivebyfiveproject#!/fivebyfiveproject

Shoot!
Saturday, 18 February, 2012 - 11:46

It’s a big thank you to everyone from everyone here at Five by Five. Together you have donated an amazing £2,000 to the project, which combined with the generosity of people lending their equipment and giving us their time should enable us to complete the 10 day shoot.

Over the last few days we have collected the equipment, bought in supplies and dressed the first of our sets. This morning saw a 7.00am call and “Five by Five Towers” is now a hive of activity. As I write this update the team are already shooting “Letter to Jane” and by tomorrow evening, not only will we have completed the filming of our first short, we will be on to the second "Give me Fiction".

As the writer of "Letter to Jane" I'd also like to give my personal thanks to everyone involved. I'm truly humbled that you like the screenplay enough to give so much.

Please check back over the coming days as we aim to bring you regular updates.

Five days to go...!
Monday, 13 February, 2012 - 01:24

The Five by Five Project is moving ahead very well. Over the last couple of weeks the team have been working hard on pre-production, we’ve scouted and secured most of the locations, held casting auditions in Oxford and London, sourced props and recruited crew.
Thursday and Friday’s audition recordings are being reviewed by the directors, so we expect to have cast finalised by mid week. With letter to Jane already cast, we’re on schedule to start filming next weekend. It’s also fantastic to be able to formally announce that all the Five by Five films will be shot using a professional Red One camera using prime lenses.
One member of the team that deserves a special mention is Lisa Meller. Lisa has worked wonders on the shoestring budget, begging, borrowing and making the props herself. She’s even learned how to make a sheet of sugar glass for “Rik Sane” to break. We would also like to say a big thank you to Film Oxford. Martyn and Nicki met with them last Thursday to talk about the project; needless to say, they loved the concept and are whole heartedly supporting Five by Five.
We’re really looking forward to next week. Thinking that we’ll have the first of five films “in the can” in just seven days is really very exciting!
