Film Composing for Fraya

I have been offered a place to study an MA in Composing for Film and Television at the National Film and Television School. There are olny four places on the course each year. I am delighted to have achieved this highly competitive place, which involved a very thorough three part selection process. The course will commence in January 2013.

In order to take up the place at the National Film and Television School, I need to raise a total of £45,600 to cover the tuition fees and the costs involved in moving to London. The tuition fees amount to £21,600 for two years and I estimate that I can live in London modestly for £12,000 per year.

This two year course includes training in live and computer based music composition for Film, Drama, Documentary and Animated Films as well as Television Programs. We will work in individual music suites learning how to use Apple Logic, Sibelius, and the Vienna Symphonic Library as well as post production facilities, Avid, ProTools, Euphonix, and Surround Sound. There will also be tuition in running live recording sessions.Group learning combined with regular weekly one-to-one tutorials with industry professionals tailored to individual student needs will facilitate the development of creative, technical, business, legal and professional skills. 

This brilliant opportunity to study in a collaborative, filmmaking environment will enable me to gain a perspective on the roll of a composer within a film making context, learning how to best work complimentarily with directors, sound designers and other team members thus forging positive working relationships with other film makers. It also provides great access to networking opportunities on which to build a future career in the film and television industry which is my full intention on completion of this course.  The course will culminate with a showcase of films at the Southbank Centre in London.

I have always taken great pleasure and pride in composing and I aim to develop my talent and potential further, learning how I can best use it to compliment screen productions. I feel training and a qualification would enable me to take my place confidently in the world of production for the screen.

I have been advised by the course leader at the NFTS that it will not be possible for me to take on paid work during the course of my study. I was very impressed with the tutoring that I received during the five day selection course which I attended in the first week of August and feel I could benefit substantially from this level of tuition. It is imperative that I can raise funds in order to proceed with the course as I do not have much personal financial wealth to pay for the tuition fees or living expenses.
